High resting Heart Rate?

Hello.

This is probably a weird concern, but is it bad that my resting heart rate (according to my heart rate monitor) is in the upper 70's to early 80's? This seems REALLY high to me. I should be as skinny as a stick if this is normal! Could my heart rate monitor be off? When I am just walking at a moderate pace my HR is like 120-is that normal too?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,

Kat

It is normal to be that high - same for walking, especially if you aren't in the best shape yet. However, once you start getting more fit you will see that your resting heart rate drops and you have to work harder to get your heart rate up.
  • So according to the realwomensfitness.com article the normal range is between 70 to 80 bpm. Are you laying down when you take your pulse to get your resting heart rate or standing/sitting up. I think that can make a difference. I would try to take your pulse in the morning before you get out of bed like the article suggests.
