Just found the MFP app a couple days ago and so far, it has been easy to use. I am a little confused as to why it allows me to eat more calories that I expected. Exercise will be difficult for me because I have some knee problems, if anyone has any good suggestions, it would be appreciated. I don't know anyone that uses MFP, so am looking for friends to keep me going.

It starts off that way because it slowly goes less and less on the calories. I think it gives u time to get to that diet. It recalibrates after u lose like say 10 pounds or so. Add me if u like. Im pretty active with this.0

Welcome to MFP
It's important that the calories you consume are from quality and healthy food so keep that in mind. Sometimes you have to fiddle around with your daily calorie allowance to get it right for you. Steady, slow weight loss is best but for guys, they sometimes drop a lot of weight quickly at first and then it slows down.
In terms of bad knees - it's better to do some exercise than none at all. Swimming is great as it's not weight bearing. You can also try some cycling and after a while you should find your knee getting stronger and then you will be able to do more.
Feel free to add me.0 -
