I am currently doing a high protein eating plan and I am looking for new sources for protein. Has anyone ever tried canned shrimp or canned crab-meat? The kind that's canned just like tuna not the canned stuff from the deli/seafood section. Thanks!

I can't eat shrimp but I make canned lump crab meat and tuna a couple times a month.

I make salmon patties out of the salmon that comes in pouches. I think the recipe is actually on the packaging itself!

I love the canned shrimp! I make shrimp sandwiches or put it in salads. I use canned crab for a not so healthy but very yummy hot crab dip. I have mixed it with Light MIracle Whip like I would with tuna and made a crab sandwich, but I find crab has too delicate a flavor for me, but I'm sure it would be good in a salad or something too. Just make sure you rinse whatever you get before using it.

Canned crab meat is great. Usually the better the quality meat, the higher the price (as with many things) so just beware of the cheaper stuff.

I love canned salmon (skinless/boneless). It is almost always the wild caught stuff. I get the Trader Joe's brand and it is great in salmon salad (like tuna salad, just replace the tuna with the salmon) or salmon patties or burgers.

I've never tried canned shrimp because I prefer to buy shrimp raw and cook it myself. Are canned shrimp those really tiny ones?

Yes. I too prefer to buy and cook my own shrimp. Growing up 3 hours from the ocean, I like to get my seafood as fresh as possible, but it's hard to do now living in a land locked state....
