I want so badly to get into shape but I go to the gym and I feel all alone. Then my fiance doesnt want to go when I do or he is too busy. I just wish I had someone to stand with me. Anyone know what I can do or something that would motivate me keep me interested and committed?

Are there people at the gym that you see regularly? I know it would be hard but maybe introduce yourself to someone and see where it takes you, what do you have to lose?! Or just think I have to meet that stranger at the gym lol and then never meet them but you know that they'll be there at the same time everyday!

If you can afford it, I would suggest a personal trainer. They will certainly motivate you and have you come in for scheduled visits and you will feel obligated to show. Other than that, I love to run on the treadmill and will set up challenges for myself to accomplish such as speed intervals on Monday, long run on Wednesday, etc and see if I can do better each week or month I absolutely have to listen to music while working out to keep me moving.
You could also set up a new topic and have others join to log in your weekly exercise goals. We can motivate you and you may feel more obligated to go to the gym if you later come here and say how you did for the week.
Let me know if you start one and I'll join you

I hate going alone as well. Sometimes my friend didn;t want to go when I did, so I kept my eyes open for a treadmill. I was so fortunate to get one at Canadian Tire for 60%, off so now I can do my treadmill any time I want. It's just a simple inexpensive one that works wonderfully. I am so happy with it.

Bethany, I would love to be your online partner. I don't think you need to have someone in person to help motivate you. We can work together and support each other by checking in daily or weekly and setting goals together.

If you are interested, just let me know.

I workout by walking/jogging around in my neighborhood (who needs a treadmill when you can walk outside for free?)... I was having a hard time until two things happened: 1 - I got an Ipod which makes everything more fun when you have music and 2 - I changed my mindset. Instead of thinking it was work or a dreadful thing, I started looking at my workouts as my much needed 'alone time'. Thats when I really started to enjoy it and actually looked forward to my after dinner walk/jog every night!
Unfortunately I had some medical issues/injury last month and since it forced me to be lazy, no exercise, for 3 weeks I've been struggling to get back into it. :grumble:

Maybe a different perspective can get your drive back? I dunno, everyone is different.

I love the idea of an online partner! I might have to do that lol

That sounds great! How should we start this?
