I received a private message today, scolding me for being too direct. Sorry, can’t help it. That scolding message regarding some diet fad, got me thinking. I have posted many times on here, and I've found 90% of my posts focus on the same answer. The questions are posed differently, but share the same inspiration. So, I'm going to ask prior to posting a question you’re not sure about - ask yourself the following:

- Do I really already know the answer, but it will result in hard work / eating less or cleaner, and I'm hoping to rationalize that away?
- Am I asking about a 'crutch' program - i.e. a "diet" or a pill or another shortcut?

If either of those two questions are a YES, erase your questions and ask about the basics of eating clean, working out intensely, regaining momentum when you screw up (which we all do), and keeping your attitude focused on the long-term. & positive. If you answered NO to those first two questions, that’s a great start, now read on and think through the following questions:

- Are my effort levels DRAMATICALLY increased in relation to what got me overweight in the first place?
- Have I tried decreasing my food consumption DRAMATICALLY in relation to what got me overweight in the first place?
- Have I done the above two things CONSISTENTLY over a LONG PERIOD?
- Have I thought deeply about the REAL reasons I want to be fit?
- Have I accepted the pain, deprivation and sacrifice that I will need to SUCCEED?

If you answered all those question YES – keep it up - you're going to succeed. If you answered NO, then learn about that area of deficit. Focus your questions there, not on the fad diets, pills, scams, easy ways out, etc. Use the quality resources you have on here, but know one thing – there are zero shortcuts. Many of us who have made the journey are excited to help, but myself – I don’t have the patience to deal until you’ve realized it doesn’t come free. It hurts, it isn’t always fun, but you can succeed if you’re willing to pay the price. Are you?

Well said! I've found myself rolling my eyes at some things I've heard/read. I'm very judgemental and have little patience for flat-out stupidity. (It's who I am. If you don't like that, tough.) If you're genuinely trying to learn something, I have all the time in the world for you, but if you're going to ignore what I say and ask five other people the same thing in the hopes of getting the answer you *hoped* to hear, please don't waste my time!

Now, bear in mind that I'm not necessarily talking about fitness...it's more about areas where I actually have expertise. So basically I'm right there with you in sentiment rather than topic.

Refreshing to hear. And yes, I'm with you - it's focused on fitness here, but the trait generally applies to many areas!
