I work in construction which means a lot of late nights (10-11pm). I know you are not suppose to eat late before bed. But, normally, that's when you get hungry. Do you have any healthy "goto" foods you'd like to recommend? Thank you.

I've been recently eating 3oz of baby carrots (that's quite a handful ) and dipping them in 2 tablespoons of lite bleu cheese or lite Caesar dressing. It's a delicious snack with only about 100 calories.

"You're not supposed to eat late at night".. from a weight loss standpoint, that's pretty debatable in my opinion. I've heard both sides of the debate and I'm convinced that late night eating doesn't matter as long as there is a caloric deficit at the end of the day or week.
I work till 9-10pm and by the time I cook it's 11pm when I usually have dinner. This hasn't had a negative impact on my weight loss so far.

But anyways.. to answer your question, if I don't feel like cooking after work I usually have a cup of soy or almond milk, an apple, a banana, or maybe a piece of wheat toast with a little almond butter.

Corn thins with peanut butter and jam. Or mature cheddar cheese with an apple, or celery and cream cheese, or dark chocolate, or yoghurt raisins, or if I am mega hungry and I have room in my calories I will have half of my lunch for the next day,

Some books mentioned that if you eat carb too close to the bed time (2 Hrs), your body will not have enough time to use it up and it will be turned into fat and store in your body. I have no idea if this is true.

Not true. I worked nights, had breakfast at IHOP before going to sleep 2 hours later, never gained a pound. Anecdotal for me, but it's also proven by scientific study that eating before bed doesn't impact weight loss. Your body just doesn't go "OH BOY IT'S 8PM TIME TO STORE ALL FOOD AS FAT". Your body doesn't know what time it is.

Calories do not know what time of day it is. And your body is functioning 24-7 and needs to be fueled. Our bodies don't say "Well, it's 8pm now and anything that Jane eats from now until 7am tomorrow will be turned into fat." It doesn't work that way. If it did, we would all just stop eating by 8pm and no one would have to worry about losing weight.

I wouldn't worry about how late you eat unless the late night eating makes you go over your calories (or whatever you are tracking) or if it gives you a tummy ache/indigestion eating so close to bed time.

I believe that the whole "don't eat after XXpm" recommendations were originally based on research that showed a correlation between people who snacked late being more likely to be overweight. However correlation isn't the same as causation. Provided you plan for your snacking and leave aside enough cals, have at it :)

I snack on all sorts of things at night depending how many cals I have left up my sleeve:) Protein bar, peice of fruit, gelato... omg ICECREAM:)
