JM: Compare 30 Day Shred to Ripped in 30?

Hey guys -

I've been doing "Ripped in 30" for a while now - but more treating it as a supplemental workout, rather than a real 30-day program. I can more or less get through week two without wishing I were dead. (Or, more to the point, that she were...)

Last week I found a copy of "30 Day Shred" at a local resale shop for two bucks, so I thought, why not add it to my library?

NOW. Having done RI30 for a bit, I decided to jump right into level 2 of 30DS. And I more or less made it :smokin:

There seem to be a lot of the same moves, in different orders, with slightly different modifications to them. It's still the "3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio, 1 minute abs" thing. And somehow (if possible) 30DS is a "kinder, gentler Jillian."

And yet - also somehow - my legs felt more like tapioca after the 30DS than they ever did during RI30! :grumble:

How can two programs that are so similar have such different effects?

Has anyone else done both for an extended period of time and chime in on whether it's worth doing/keeping both around? Is one "better" than the other? Or is RI30 kind of an improved sequel....?

(And if you really want a challenge, try doing those planks, mountain climbers and squat thrusts with bare or stocking feet! )

bump. I am just starting level 2 RI30, did 30 DS previously. Bit early days to say what difference I noticed.
  • I've done 30 DS and have 3 days left of ripped. They are both terrific but I have found ripped to be more advanced. I don't think you can go wrong with any of Jillian's programs. I am 'rewarding' myself for completing Ripped with the purchase of Killer Buns and Thighs! I need help.....

I'm doing KBT at the same time as RI30. So far KBT not been too bad, though I am only on level 1. Gunna start on level 2 in about half an hour!

I have done both and love them. With 30DS I saw the scale move where as with RI30 I lost inches and really have more definition is my arms and legs. Im doing No More Trouble Zones and that is great as well :)

I did 30DS and am now in the middle of Week 3 of RI30. I personally saw more results with 30DS, especially in week 1. I feel like RI30 focuses more on strength training and 30DS is more cardio based. That is just my opinion. I like both DVDs, but if I had to pick one that gave better results? Definitely 30DS...hope this helps :)

Yeah, thanks, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for.

I wear a HRM when I do these things, and after running through 30DS level 3 a couple of days ago, it reported that I was 12 seconds "below" the fat-burning window, 5 minutes inside it, and 24 minutes waaaaay over.

    Whee!

I have done 30Day shred two months ago and for more than a month and I found it really effective and nice workout
I have started Ripped in 30 and Killer buns and thigh together but on alternative days in the evening but I do not do it everyday its like a supplement workout for me too :)
I workout in the gym in morning everyday and then in the evening 4 out of 7 days I do alternatively these two workouts
I am on level 2 of KBT and its still kicking my butt .. I still feel like I will die in the last 5 minutes but I have seen huge difference in my lower body (I have a pear shaped body)
I am doing Week 3 of Ripped in 30 and I like it more than 30Day shred its definitely more advanced from 30Day shred as it focuses more on abs and strength moves even the cardio routines are more focused on Abs as compared to 30 Day shred which was more like beginner versions ..

I would REALLY recommend everyone with pear shape body to try Killer buns and thighs.. I am doing it for more than a month now but I still die in the end of every workout :D

I am just starting - two days later, mind you - to start feeling the obliques work I did on Monday morning in the 30DS.

    Sneaky muscles...
