Convincing a spouse that intermittent fasting is worth a try

I recently (yesterday) learnt that the ideal eating routine for me is called intermittent fasting. My wife is wonderful, I am very lucky to have such a supportive spouse. She makes me sandwiches for lunch. I have explained to her that I'd prefer not to eat sandwiches for lunch, but rather to eat nothing until my evening meal. She doesn't think this is a good idea and would prefer me to eat during the day (which just makes me feel hungry all day long, so not something I want to do).

Has anyone here had to convince a loved-one of the benefits of intermittent fasting? I would be very grateful for any advice.

Thank you in advance.

I started 10 days ago. My husband doesn't know. I just tell him I'm not yet hungry and will eat later

I didn't realise, until I saw the posts here about it, that it had a 'name'. I've always called it 'skipping meals'.

I agree. Just let her read the information for herself. I did it for a month before I told my husband and he was surprised but on board after I explained everything.

Print out the Wikipedia entry on IF, or the introductory sections of the Lean Gains, or Fast-5 sites. Or Google "Intermittent Fasting 101."

In a sense, that's all it is. You do, however, end up eating all your calories for the day or the week, just in a more compressed period. But some people start screaming "STARVATION"! it's very tiresome.

^ where did you 'learn' that the ideal eating routine for you is this?

I just lead by example. If I suggest that he try something it's usually a sure fire way to get him to say no. Meanwhile if I just start doing it on my own, all the sudden he's curious. Reverse psychology for the win!

This. I know it is out of concern, but it is not her decision. And that is exactly what I would say to her.

Thank you, that's really helpful. I'm going to do a little bit of research on it but I think I'm naturally tuned into this too. I haven't eaten today, it's 1320 in the UK and I'm still not hungry. I've filled in my diary but would be quite happy to just eat one meal in the evening and leave the rest. Breakfast is very hit and miss for me, I would never eat it if I didn't keep reading that one 'must'. I still put it off until as near lunchtime as possible.

Once a day would be fine... I must be like a snake... but a very chubby one!
