So down here at the bottom of the world they finally brought out something they have dared to call almond milk. As the top two ingredients are water and sugar I think they have a flamin cheek :grumble: :grumble:
These are the ingredients from their website:
Filtered Water, Cane Sugar, Almonds (2%), Mineral Salts (Tricalcium Phosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate), Emulsifier (Lecithin), Natural Flavours, Vegetable Gum (Locust Bean), Salt.
Does the almond milk overseas have all these ingredients?? Is this why I can't get my home made stuff to be lower calorie than trim milk?

I use unsweetened almond milk (when I use almond milk at all) and it has filtered water, almonds, natural flavors, and added minerals.
I am sure that the "sweetened" variety would be similar to what you have listed. It is also higher calorie than the "unsweetened" kind that I use (my preferred brand has 35 calories in the same amount as the "sweetened" does for 60 calories.
If you search online there are recipes to make your own where the only ingredients are almonds and water. I've never done it before, but I am sure it is going to be healthier than the store bought versions.0 -
I have made my own but the calorie count turns out really high. I guess this is because you can't add as much water to the mix without also adding flavours.
We cannot get unsweetened here - just this one.0 -
Which Brand is this? I've tried 3 - So Good, Australias own organic and a third I found in a gourmet shop but that tasted like marzipan so I threw it out... I think the So Good is my choice but I don't have any to check the ingredients at the moment. Its much lower cal than milk though and the Australia's own separates in coffee leaving a horrid looking mess.0

This is the so good one - just couldn't believe how little actual almond is in it :ohwell:0

Yep... I thought it might be... The Australias Own is probably more legitimate but I don't like how it separates0 -
Almond Breeze Unsweetened Almond Milk is available in Coles Supermarkets now, I have been buying it for a couple of months.
I much prefer the taste over So Good. You could give it a try?0
