I used to have one my measurements were 36 - 24 - 36 until the age of 25 ish
my question is .... is it possible to get it back or does age have an effect on the return of this kind of shape ... I am curently 39 and my measurements are 41 - 34 - 40
Although I doubt I will get back to my mid 20's size ... I am hoping the ratio could be similarish say 40 - 30 - 40
whats the opinions of other MFPers does age affect my chances
edited to say I got my old measurements wrong, my head was on another planet I was 36 on the bust and hips not 38 as I said previously

No, I don't think our ages affect our genetic 'shape'. You might not get back your teen ratio but your desired adult one is doable. I'm an hourglass also and whatever I do - gain or lose weight, I'm always an hourglass. Our waistlines apparently thicken as we age but I find that waistbend and twists (and weights) do very much to nip it back in to a definite and pronounced indent.0

I'm sure age and life experiences will play a part in your shape now (for example, if you've had children you may have wider hips now or your tummy may never get quite as small). But you aren't that far off from an hourglass figure now. I read recently - can't remember where or I'd cite it - that an hourglass figure is defined as your waist being smaller than your bust & hips by 9" or more. You are 7" from your bust now. So if you lose a couple more inches from your tummy you'll be there!0

I can't answer based on my current progress, but when I was first diagnosed with diabetes at age 40 I was able to do it. First I lost weight, down to what was then my goal. Then I started a weight lifting program. After a few months working hard with the weights, I had gained a pound, but lost 3 inches off of my waist.
If only I had maintained that!
Now I am going to see if I can do it again at 50+0 -
I don't think "age" in and of itself would prevent you from having proportionate measurements - however, life experience might make it more difficult to obtain...
I have had 3 abdominal surgeries, and as such the connective tissues need a bit more time and patience than my body would need prior to these surgeries. At least that's what the docs have been saying...I'm not giving up.
So, having kids, surgeries, etc. might impact how difficult it is - but I just refuse to believe that it's impossible!
And...to avoid any snippy replies - THIS IS JUST MY OPINION! If you have irrefutable facts to the contrary, please feel free to correct me.0 -
Ah... now THAT I didn't take into consideration but yes, I agree, abdominal surgery, childbirth, would definitely not help because of the muscle damage.0

Ive had 4 children natural birth ....and I have never had any surgery on my tummy ... I do have allot of stretch marks (but doubt that will affect my chances) might not look pretty in a bikini but a swimsuit will suit me fine lol
I also gain all over
ETS ... if 40 30 40 seems doable I might need to change it to 38 28 38 haha .... well I can dream

thanks for the replies so far

I was 36-26-35 until I hit my 30s and I am now 38-32-40. I know I can get back to my original measurements because I did it a few years ago before my laziness and complacency allowed the body fat to creep back on. I swear I'm not going to let my hard work go to waste when I hit my goal this time.0
