1200 calories seems too low??

I just signed up today and entered in my height, weight etc and it calculated my daily calories at 1200.... that seems awfully low to me. Considering I am not sedentary all day and am commited to working out 5 days a week I am nervous about only taking in 1200 calories per day. Has anyone else had this same experience?

When you work out, you enter exercise and you will be given extra calories.
You can change your Goals to Moderately Active (which is what you ARE) and you will be given more calories. OR, you can manually set your own Goals:

Once you add your exercise calories burned, your calorie allotment will increase accordingly. If you burn 400 calories per day, you'll see the 400 added for a total of 1600 calories.0

Me too! When you add your daily exercise your calorie allowance increases for that day.0

With a goal of losing 24 pounds, make sure you have your weekly goal set to one pound a week, and that you don't have your activity level at sedentary if you're not sedentary. That in itself should give you more calories than 1200, and once you add the calories earned from exercise, you should be at a pretty decent amount of food.
I lost weight eating a total of 1800-2000 most days.0 -
Thanks for the info! I didn't realize when I excercised it would increase my daily calories! First day... a lot to figure out0

1200 calories is too low for most people, except those who are quite small.0

For every calorie you burn MFP lets you eat it back. Its just going to take some time to see what works for you! keep asking questions and people will answer. WARNING: this is a very controversial topic on MFP, 1200 calorie discussions tend to bring up a lot of strong opinions. Most are valid but just remember that everyone is different.0

MFP had me at 1200 calories per day, and I was just too hungry. I changed my current activity level to "lightly active" from "sedentary" in my goals, it is now giving me 1400 calories per day which seems manageable to me. The BMR calculator here (http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/) gives me a much higher caloric intake, but I think I'm going to try the 1400 calories and see how it goes.0
