has anyone ever had pain in the "padded areas" of you feet...I have been running lately-mostly 5k's and recently my left food is sore along the outside of the foot and padded areas at the top. Is this due to my shoes needing replacement, running gate? I have flat feet so I have insoles in my shoes, bought the shoes last september so I don't know if I need new shoes. but just looking for input. I don't want to injure my foot either! thanks so much!

How much mileage is on your current shoes? Running shoes need to be replaced starting around 300 miles. That could be the problem.0

Go to a store that specializes in running shoes that can analyze your foot, stride, etc and tell you what shoe will fit you best.0

If you bought your shoes last fall it's a pretty safe bet they're due to be replaced. The cushioning in most shoes breaks down after 300 to 500 miles (getting them soaking wet speeds up the process too).
If you haven't already done so, get fitted at a running specialty shop to make sure you have the correct type of shoe.
Hard to try to analyze gait without seeing you run but, in general, you should be trying for a midfoot strike. Keep your forward foot under your body to keep your stride short (shorter steps, higher foot turnover).
Hope this helps.0 -
NEW shoes are needed...I RUN ALOT and my shoes burn out every 3-4 months..lol...it's true:)0

Is it a friction type soreness (soreness on the skin itself) or deeper than that? I struggled with the former until I bought some specialist socks that use a diff material, have reduced/relocated seams and are padded in the right areas. They weren't expensive really, about £7 from Decathlon.0

Thanks everyone. I figured I probably was due for new shoes- it just feels like I bought them yesterday:( The soreness is not surface but deeper. I have been using a tennis ball and rolling my foot around on it. That has helped massage it- but I know I need to take it easy because my calves on the left are also tight. So I know it is all related. I am taking a small break from running and will do swimming or spinning for a while and go from there. I did get the shoes from a specialty store so hopefully they can just show me the next best thing. such an investment-hate forking over another $100+ for shoes everytime...(sigh)0

Thanks again everyone! went to chiropractor yesterday and found out I need more support in the front of my foot and a bone is dropping as I run. Well, need to invest in new shoes!0

Man, I wish $$ wise to only have to pick up a few pairs a year. Right now it is more like 100

Tell me about it! lol!0 -
If you ever wonder if your shoes need replaced, go to the store and try on a new pair. It will give you a good indication of how worn down your current shoes are.
Also in situations with foot pain, there could be a neck adjustment needed....last year when I started running I had foot problems. A small adustment to C2 and I was good to go a day later!0 -
If you bought your shoes in September, you need new shoes! Get new ones and if it continues, get it checked by a podiatrist or sports medicine ortho! I self treated foot pain at home for 8 months and continued running only to find out that I have a partially torn Acchilles tendon that needs surgery. Gave up running, needless to say.0
