i usually run on a track at a local high school and it's very easy to keep track of distance and time and speed because we all know 4 laps ='s a mile in most cases. anyway, on the days that school is in session during the time i go running i go to a local park and run there. they have markers so i'm able to track distance & time which is great, but there are some hills there so my time is actually gonna be a lil slower then if i were running on a leveled out track. my question is: how to you log these runs? the kind where the ground is not leveled. obviously you work harder, i especially try to sprint all the way to the top of the hills. any suggestions?

I'm lazy, I use a HRM for my runs so that changes in intensity and/or terrain automatically get accounted for.
If you're using the built in settings I'd probably log it at the same speed as track runs, as you correctly observed you may be running a bit slower pace but you're working as hard or harder.0 -
I actually find that mfp is good at getting my calories for running. My neighborhood is hilly as well. You just need to track your minutes per mile and match it up to what mfp has and it usually works out. It would be good to see if a friend has a hrm you can borrow for a run and then you know what to match the choices in mfp up to your actual burn. Good luck!0

I don't really run alot but I walk alot and hope to run by slowly increasing my walking speed.
I have a $5 pedometer from walmart that I use. I just track how many miles I walked and then use the "walking 2 miles/hour" category in the database. If I walk 3 miles I just enter that I walked for 1.5 hours. The calories burned comes out the same so it doesn't really matter, the only thing you're off by is how many minutes you actually walked0 -
thanks guys. i have a pedometer/hrm on my watch. i guess i'm not exactly putting it to good use am i? i just got it and am barely still trying to figure this darn thing out. thank you all for your help.
