Touring bike tyres

Hello, I wonder if you lovely people can help me out?
Me and my husband are planning a trip from essex to lands end in cornwall on our bikes (heavily converted halfords own brand bikes)
Last year we did a 600 odd mile round trip on them and they were fine, except, I feel I need better tyres, mine are still the cheap ones the bike came with.
Can anyone recommend me a set of tyres (700x40c) good for cycle touring?
The bike carries a fair bit of weight (207lb+ front and back panniers full) so they would need to be fairly sturdy. We rarely take the bikes on anything other than roads, but some of out good old english country lanes are a wee bit bumpy.
I am after something that can take a load, has puncture protection and doesnt take a ton of extra effort to roll on.
Thanks :-)

I've had very good luck with the Schwalbe Marathon Plus for commuting (I'll put approx 2,000km per year on them, zero flats in two years) but looking at Schwalbe's website they have a newer model (Duremo Touring) listed specifically for heavier loads & durability.
Despite living in Canada I order my tires from the UK and have found Chain Reaction Cycle has extremely competitive pricing, you may also ask them for a recommendation (I've read good reviews of Continental's touring tires too)0 -
Brilliant,
I have had a look at their website and the marathon plus ones look like the ones for me!
Thanks for your help :-)0 -
Continental manufacture a good touring tyre.
They are also easy to fit on the rims.
