this probably sounds like a weird question. but before i had my two kids. i was a very skinny person, who could eat whatever i wanted. as long as i exercised 5 times a week, i could eat all i wanted and never gain weight. after having my 2nd child, i gained a lot of weight pregnant with him. and lost most of it. but I managed to hang on to the last 30 pounds or so, that's being stubborn to get rid of. I have started this low calorie diet to get rid of the weight once and for all, and go back to the way i was. my question is, once i lose the weight that i want from having babies, my metabolism should be the same as it was a few years ago right. so should i be able to go back to exercising and pretty much eating whatever i want. I'm pretty good at maintaining the current weight i'm at. so once i get down to my goal, will it be as easy to stay skinny? or does having kids change your metabolism drastically?

Uh, maybe, but why dont you take this opportunity to get into GOOD eating habits instead of "eating whatever you want"?
I mean, eventually your metabolism WILL slow down, so why don't you get a head start on keeping yourself thin as you get older by eating right?0 -
I am not to sure about being able to eat when ever you want but i had a baby 18 months ago and i have lost weight and was happy with my body but once i stopped dieting i gained it all back FAST and i do belive that our metabolism slows down after having a bay, its unfortunate and something we will probably will have to struggle with for the rest of our lives!!!0

No your metabolism should be much slower from going on a low calorie diet. MFP is set up so that you have a certain number of calories allotted to you depending on your activity level. Then what ever calories you burn exercising, and you do need to exercise, you add to your MFP calories and that is how many you eat a day. It will probably be more than you are used to eating. If you so this your metabolism will start to speed up. The more often you eat the more efficient you body will burn fat. I eat what I want, not always in the amounts that I want but I don't deprive myself. Pay attention to the people on here that eat and are happy losing weight, not the ones the are miserable and starving themselves and can't stick with it. Best of luck too you!!0

My wife is now in her mid-40's. She weighs less than she ever has. She is doing a lot more exercise than she ever did. And, she eats pretty much whatever she wants. Yet, we have both changed our portion size and turned to healthier foods. So, we are probably eating less calories than before kids. Keeping an eye on the weight and adjusting exercise and diet when it starts to creep up is what she does. Though, she has pretty much given up sweets except chocolates.
Good luck.0 -
I think even when trying to lose weight we can all eat whatever we want, but not so much of it. It's important to build healthy eating habits and pay attention to nutrition, but there's no reason why you can't have a treat, as long as you make room for it in your calorie goals.0

As someone who likes his food very much, I can say yes. I've lost over 100 lbs following a basic nutrition plan that involved being able to eat whatever I feel like. The key is to COOK IT YOURSELF and know what ingredients to substitute out. You'll eventually grow to feel that eating a homemade alternative used with light ingredients that's 90% as good as the one you USED to eat but fits into your diet plan wins out every time.
I have taught myself how to prepare:
Nachos
Burritos
Burgers
Pasta dishes
Seafood dishes
all of which fit into my nutrition plan.0 -
u can eat whatever u want in moderation and not all the time after all u getting old and ur metabolism slows down with age0

I eat whatever I want!!!! But, what I want are healthy things to eat! After I eat a not so healthy meal I really don't feel good, it hurts my stomach to do it. But I have found healthy options for whatever I'm craving! Yesterday I had raviolis and pasta with a white sause! How did I fit that into my cals and macros? They were lean cuzines. Ran about 220 cals each and a little higher on the sodium, but able to stay under still.. Just find low cal options for what you like. I love hamburgers too (I like them grilled, like a cook out) a few weekend ago I had some! Made with ground turkey, to me they tasted almost indentical to the beef ones. But at a fraction of the cals/fat. I like steak too, and I find that if I get a good one (a lean cut) they are usually pretty good for you. Just find things that you already like that can be prepaired in a way to keep them healthy.0

It's not about babies, it's about aging, sorry to say. You get older, your metabolism slows.
I'm 35 and have had 3 kids and gained more and more weight with each one. With my first, I had her at 23 and the weight came right off. I had my sons in my 30s and the weight stuck more with each one.
You probably wont be able to eat like crap the rest of your life with no concequences. Thats what being a teenager is for.
Losing weight, for me, has been about realizing that I want to be around a long time for my kids and so I want to treat my body really well. That means putting good things into in that help me feel good and be healthy. I am totally content not eating McDonalds and pop tarts and candy regularly. Honestly, when I see people with kids eating that crap, I just shake my head. I'm treating myself well AND I'm showing my kids healthy eating habits. And I've lost 34lbs.........that feels better than eating a bag of caramel corn EVER did.0 -
You may be able to eat what you want IN MODERATION, as you don't have time anymore with 2 kids to exercise as much as you used to! Before kids you could exercise uninterrupted as much as you wanted. If you had a high calorie meal, you could just put in an extra hour at the gym. Now you have a huge time constraint.... So eat what you want, but use portion control and fit in as much exercise as possible. You may need to work out 6 days a week now instead of 5, but make the changes that fit your schedule best. If you can't work out as intensely as before, then cut calories or vice-versa. It's a huge balancing act!0
