Buying an exercise bike? Quick question for you... HELP

Hey all, I'm looking to invest in an exercycle/exercise bike and I've seen one online that is a recumbent style ie more sitting/lieing down with legs in front, than "on top" of the bike if you know what I mean. This one also changes, so can be a rower, which I thought would be really good versatility? Or would it be best to just invest in a standard sit "on top" exercycle machine?
Any tips???

my only experiences with a recumbent exercise bike came while i was rehabbing my knee. i found the motion on a recumbent bike to be more back and forth, not around and around like when i currently ride my bicycle. in fact, i was put on the recumbent b/c i couldnt flex my knee enough to go all the way around like you do when riding a bike. hopefully i am explaining the motion correctly, but i have found the motion to be different on both bikes.
perhaps one of your considerations is the amount of room either would take up.

Thanks for that. Still not 100% on the options...it does fold up to make more space which is attractive, but in saying that the upright bike, doesn't take up alot of space at all.
I wonder which would burn more cals though, the recumbent bike seems like it's designed for sitting down - whereas I think you could work harder on the upright bike?0
