Here's the deal...I have about $50 extra this month in my budget as well as a coupon to redeem for a $30 gift card of my choice...I want to use the gift card + some cash to get something that will help me reach my goals...but I need suggestions.

I'd like to get some weights or a Polar FT4 HRM....but I'm also open to other suggestions...is there anything specific you guys have purchased that has helped with your journey?

I looooooove my Polar FT4 - I'd definitely opt for getting one of those over the weights. :) How FUN to have $80 to shop with!

food scale if you don't have one.
good running shoes, if you're into running (get fitted)
    HRM could be helpful
weights are probably going to cost you a bit more than $80...

Try kettlebells. Either get some heavy ones (35lbs+) and go to mbodystrength.com for some great workouts, or try lighter ones (15lbs) and use kettleworx.com dvd's, which are (my description) a combination of traditional kettlebells, cardio, and pilates. Definitely a great bang for your buck! Kettlebells work multiple muscle groups, so you get more tone/definition in less time. My brother in law is a trainer, and swears he never would have used anything else if he'd heard of them sooner.
  • Clothes and shoes! But I'm not sure if that would be super-motivating to you, lol. One thing I used to do, when I was exercising consistently, was to purchase a new brand-name sports shirt or pants/leggings after reaching a mini-goal (10 lbs or so). Since I was exercising routinely, I needed to switch out older sports clothes for newer ones because of my new size as well as constant use of the garments. Also, electronics are big motivators to me! I bought my iPod as a reward after working very hard one summer. I am not sure that there are very many *good* exercise gadgets out there...you can get great exercise without electronics. Do you have a good body weight scale? Or a kitchen food scale? You could get some protein powder (the good stuff) and still have some $$ left over.

I'll have to look more into the kettlebells...I've seen them several times but I really know nothing about them.
