Greek Yogurt - Recipes?

You can use it in so many ways, as a sweet or savory dip, in place of mayo, sour cream, milk, etc...I always add something to mine.0

So I finally decided to try Greek yogurt. Didn't like it at all. I've heard you can use it in recipes though, and was wondering if you have a recipe you could recommend. (It's just plain - no flavors.)
My husband used it in waffles (not as a topping). It was awesome. We also use it in smoothies all the time. We use the plain Greek yogurt, protein powder, almond milk and frozen fruit. Good luck!0 -
Greek yogurt is really versatile. You can make it like the others said with berries, honey, and some granola mixed in. You can also use it as a substitute for mayonaisse in salmon or tuna salads. I like to use it in curries. Just saute eggplant, tomato, and onion with lots of curry powder, cumin, salt, pepper, cinnamon, ginger and when it looks almost done add about a half cup of plain greek yogurt and let simmer. Its delicious.
Good call on the mayo substitution - I don't like mayo but I love tuna sandwiches! I usually use mustard but its just not the same. So thanks for that! And thanks to the original poster - I recently bought greek yogurt too to try something different, but I'm not a big fan of it either. Thanks for the ideas everyone!0 -

Mmm....Greek yogurt is one of my favorite foods on Earth. I prefer the non-fat, plain type because it is the healthiest for me. Fage is my favorite brand. I personally wouldn't buy Yoplait. I just don't like that company, but that is only me. To each their own, of course. That is why we have options!
I put my Fage in my protein shake. I also mix in honey and any fresh fruit or berry. At night when I have those awful cravings I get one cup of Fage non-fat, plain and add some sugar-free vanilla syrup and some powdered vanilla bean and it is the perfect calorie conscious late night snack. Got this idea from mfp.
I also use Greek yogurt to marinate my extra lean ground turkey. It helps to moisten the turkey which can be too dry when cooked.0 -
blend it with strawberries (or blackberries/raspberries) and you have a healthier version of strawberry greek yogurt
or add skim milk with it and strawberries into the blender and you have a protein smoothie without protein powder
I also sometimes mix it into oatmeal as a low carb alternative to milk
I haven't tried this but I know a lot of people who mix in raw cocoa powder and stevia to make a chocolate yogurt that you can have instead of a treat and it's filled with protein and antioxidants!
If your trying to keep it low calorie, mix in a package of stevia and some cinnamon, I find the sweetness makes it taste a lot better
the last recipe will only be about 110 calories depending on how much cinnamon you put in0 -
I take plain greek yogurt (oikos is my favorite) and add in about 1 TBS sugarfree/fat free pudding dry mix (I LOVE the cheesecake) and mix--I also add a packet of truvia to take away some of the tartness and I use this as fruit dip (apples and canteloupe are my favorites). Where else can you get about 100 cal, 16 gm protein --wonderful0

I use it like a condiment. BLT with turkey bacon, tomatoes, mix 1 part mayo to 3 parts greek yogurt for a great spread...not skimping no guilt!:glasses:0

I think it's real yummy. So pure and thick. I will put in my smoothies in the morning. Instead of protein powder (on and off, to save money.) Mixed with the berries and lactaid milk (or soy) you can't really taste it.0

i have a lot of recipes that use nonfat plain yogurt, and i always use Greek. here are a couple of my faves:
tuna sandwich-combine 2 oz tuna, canned in water, with 1 Tbl yogurt, 1 tsp canola oil, 1 tsp dijon mustard, 1/4 tsp each of salt, black pepper, dried dill. spread on bread (really good on rye or pumpernickel) top with lettuce n tomato. 24 carbs, 19 protein, 7 fat, 4 fiber, 1 sugar, 235 calories.
turkey, avacado, and apple salad-make the dressing by combining 2 tsp lemon juice, 2 Tbl yogurt, 1/4 tsp each salt and curry powder. salad is 1/2 an apple chopped, 1Tbl avacado, 1/4 cup chopped celery, 1 cup lettuce, 1/4 cup scallions, 1/2 tomato chopped, 4 tsp raisins, 5 slices fat free turkey, chopped. 28 carbs, 17 protein, 6 fat, 6 fiber, 22 sugar, 234 calories
turkey stroganoff- boil 1/2 cup pasta, make sauce: saute 1/2 cup mushrooms, 1/4 cup onion, and 1 1/2 oz lean ground turkey. remove from heat and blend in 2 tsp lite soy sauce, 3 Tbl yogurt, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Serve sauce over pasta and sprinkle with 1 tsp parmesan. 17 carbs, 18 protein, 8 fat, 1 fiber, 5 sugar, 212 calories!
hope i've been helpful! nonfat plain Greek yogurt is an amazing substitute in cooking recipes!0 -

Well I tried it in a smoothie this morning and it was awesome! I used 1/4 c of the greek yogurt, 1/2 c skim milk, 1/2 banana, and about 3/4 c frozen strawberries. It was so good!
And I love all these great ideas...never knew I would get so many responses! I'm going to make a note about these and try most of them! Thanks everyone!0 -
Probably already posted somewhere here but I just tried a serving of P2B powder (chocolate) in with 2% Fage and it rocks like a chocolate pudding.0

My daughter was visiting and left some in the fridge when she left. I don't like it at all so Iooked on here for some ideas and this is what I made. Search Triple Chocolate Muffin for a pic.
Super yummy!
Triple Chocolate Chunk Muffin (Knock-Offs of Whole Food’s Chocolate Chunk VitaTop Muffins)
Ingredients:
1 3/4 c oats
3 egg whites
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (or regular plain low fat yogurt)
1/2 tsp cream of tartar (or 1-1/2 Tbsp. vinegar)
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup hot water
1 cup sugar substitute (like Splenda granular) OR 1/4 cup + 2 tbs stevia
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or use white chocolate or peanut butter chips!)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 (12-cup) muffin pans with foil cupcake liners, or spray muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
In a blender, (or food processor), mix all of the ingredients together, except for the chocolate chips. Blend until oats are ground and mixture is smooth.
Place mixture in a bowl and gently stir in 1/2 of the chocolate chips (set the rest aside). Scoop mixture into prepared muffin pans.
Place muffins tins in the oven for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove muffins from the oven (but don’t shut oven off), and distribute the other half of the chocolate chips on top of each muffin.
Place the muffins back into the oven and bake for an additional 2-5 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. *Note, you could skip this step by putting all of the chips in the batter, and baking the muffins for 12-15 min straight, but this method gives the muffins the traditional ‘VitaTop Muffin’ look with the chocolate chips on top!
Cool muffins before removing from pan. ENJOY!!!

I don't particularly like the plain either - regardless of brand. Try vanilla flavored. Even just something that small changes it up a lot!
I do the Dukan gallette with the plain yogurt:
2 TBS yogurt
2 egg whites (froth)
2 TBS oat bran
mix together and add berries, honey, sweetener of your choice or peppers. It comes out like a pancake!0 -
Don't know how you can't like it? Is it something about the available US brands? I eat it lots - have a low fat version with grape nuts sometimes for breakfast but I find the full fat version better for cooking - you don't need much as a marinade, sauce, curry...
Try mixing with flaked smoked mackerel, horseradish or wasabi, and seasoning to use as a dip or a spread.
Think of it as a savoury rather than a sweet dish - over there in the US I get the impression that you're a bit used to both sweetened and flavoured food?0 -
Very salty and/or very sweet flavored foods.0

I personally love the honey-vanilla greek yogurt. I throw a couple of pieces of whatever cereal I have on hand in and sprinkle cinnamon on top. It's more filling than regular yogurt.
I also love the idea of using as a sour cream substitute.0 -

Didn't really look at the other responses so sorry if it's been repeated
sriracha + greek yogurt (preferably fage)...put on tacos as a sour cream, dip chicken in
fage with honey and cinnamon and add in your fav fruit like blueberries, strawberries, rasberries..
You just have to doctor it up a little bit.0 -

I tried this recipe this week and I loved it!
Greek yogurt ranch dressing
1 cup PLAIN Greek yogurt
1/2 cup 1% milk (2/3 cup if you don't like it as thick)
packet of Hidden Valley Ranch mix
Wisk it all together and refrigerate an hour before serving.
The whole container only has a couple hundred calories and very little fat. It is a bit high in sodium but I love it.0
