hi, has anyone of you ladies conceived after losing weight with PCOS?
I have PCOS and have been trying to conceive for almost 5 years.. I am not overweight and my hormonal profile is completely normal,i have regular periods. just the ultrasound shows that my ovaries are polycystic.. I have tried all the treatments from ovulation induction to failed IVFs.. Although i m in normal weight range, my doc told me to lose bit of weight.. Has any one of you started ovulating on your own after weight loss and conceived??

I was reading a clinical study of obese women with PCOS, at least I think they were obese, two of them didn't finish the study because they became pregnant after losing weight.0

i would be interested to know this too. I went to my dr about losing weight she told me to go low carb. work my way down to 50 carbs a day and reduce calories. from what i read reducing carbs in pcos is the key to everything, reducing cysts (i have them too) weight loss, hormone control, and increasing odds of pregnancy. It works because it controls insulin levals in our bodies, which is all out of whack from pcos, causing us tons of problems. Im in the end of week 2 of my low carb...craving are going away finally. I already lost 3 pounds, and i tried counting calories and weight just didnt come off. this seems to be working.
but she also told me that this is a lifestyle..not a diet...if i go back to eating the carbs the weight comes back.0 -
Well, personally, if you're of a normal weight, have normal hormone levels, and normal periods, you do not have PCOS. You may have polycystic ovaries, but you likely don't have the actual syndrome. Have you had your insulin levels tested?
I do have PCOS. Losing weight has NEVER helped my cycle at all. Only aging did LOL. I hit 35 and my body decided to start working. We tried everything to conceive too and were never successful. We have adopted three amazing children and couldn't be happier.
If your IVF was unsuccessful, do some research on natural killer cells in regards to conceiving. I have some autoimmune issues, including elevated natural killer cells, and there is a theory that these cells may prevent an embryo from attaching. Treatment is doing IViG infusions before IVF. It didn't work for us, but has worked for others.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks for the replies omma_to_3 one of my IVF cycles worked actually, but i got very bad chicken pox infection on the 2nd week after i came positive and had a miscarriage week later so i think natural killer cells isnt the cause... its very frustrating when you dont know the actual cause of infertility well i am hoping for the best0

I've not personally conceived but my cousin has PCOS as well and is currently pregnant with her fifth child.0 -
I have PCOS, and my first child was conceived with no issues (he's now 14), but my 2nd husband and I tried again appox 3yrs ago. I was advised to lose 10% of my body weight, which I did and we where able to conceive 3 times, however I have secondary infertility and lost all of them.0

So sorry to hear that! Miscarrying was a big fear of mine when we were TTC. Try to stay strong and most importantly, positive. Most people who do assisted reproductive technologies do succeed eventually!0
