I'm on w6d2 of c25k and I ran outdoors (on a sidewalk) for the first time. All of my other runs have been on a treadmill. One big difference is that I'm really sore after the run, I haven't been sore at all after running on the treadmill.

I did sone extra stretching and took some Tylenol, but I hope my body gets used to this new running surface. I'm afraid of getting hit by a car, so I don't want to run in the road.

It was a little harder to run outside, but I was able to complete the program. My pace was faster outside too. Normally I run at 5 mph and I was averaging 5.5 outside.

    Good job!

You are sore because the pavement is harder therefore causing for a hander impact. You'll get use to it over time...stretch your shins! :)

    Congrats on getting outdoors.

You may also find that you need to shorten your stride when running outdoors. With a treadmill the tendency is to elongate your stride a bit to compensate for the mat moving underfoot. Try to keep your forward foot in line with your hips and land midfoot rather than on your heel.

    Have fun!

Concrete is the worst surface to run on. It will wear you down more than any other surface. Get on the blacktop if you can. If you are worried about the cars, step on on the sidewalk as they approach (always run facing traffic).
