I catch myself doing that with my daughter's food sometimes! It's kind of funny but at the same time, kind of not!

I think every now and again we have to eat the things we love so we don’t go crazy. Today I’m looking forward to eating a Reuben sandwich with a small side of fries.

It's all about moderation! You can still have fries (your own next time lol), just not as few and a lot less frequently. Treat yourself to a "cheat" meal (I hate that term) once a week. It will keep you on track a lot longer.

My personal weakness at the moment is Tostino's Pizza Rolls. I'll make 6 for my son, eat 2 while they are cooling off (to make sure they're done...) and then give him the 4 and a fruit cup (not so bad, since his favorite food is fruit in general). They're still horrible though hehe.

As for cravings, you'll find as you eat the 'healthy' or 'clean' stuff more, you come to prefer it... I'm not saying you'll lose all cravings for unhealthy things, especially when you're really hungry or tired. The best thing you can do is to fit them into your calories for the day if you do 'splurge' on unhealthy food.

That being said, don't forego eating just so you can have a 20oz T-bone. You still need to eat so your body doesn't think it's starving... and don't beat yourself up over 1 mistake, the body is the best machine in the world, and will recover as long as you take care of it.

EDIT: Terri said it best... if you want fries, baked sweet potato fries are AMAZING... baked fries in general are a lot healthier than 'fried' fries.... A lot of what makes a meal unhealthy is how its cooked, take that into consideration as well.

sounds like you need to indulge yourself so you don't lose control again.

I love fried foods too--especially french fries and cheese sticks. On Monday I went out to lunch with hubs and we both got 2 mini burgers/fries and salad bar. I ate a huge salad, 2 burgers and SIX fries. When I realized that I was about to mindlessly eat the rest of them, I asked the waiter to "please take my plate before I eat these fries"

Nothing wrong with eating foods you like. as many said it is moderation that's important. Maybe the fries people should team up with Lays and use the slogan "bet you can't eat just 1"

Don't call it "cheat". just follow the 10% rule. There is 21 meals a week. so make 2.1 of things you love! (or the 20% rule: 4.2 meals of things you love just make them healthier.)

Hahaha, I didn't think you were serious when you said that! Oh man, that's horrible, but so funny at the same time.

Don't worry, though... if your biggest slip-up has been one small order of french fries, then you're doing great. Just, you know, make sure it's your own next time. :p

If you go on a bread and water diet it will not take long before you fall off the wagon... it is all about moderation. I have something off the charts at least once a week to help me stay on track and I have gotten to the sweet spot and been there for several months. Trick is I want to stay here and not put back on what I managed to discard. As far as taking other peoples fries... I think most of us have done the fry leveling thing when picking up several orders for the house or office... lol

Good Luck and keep to the path my friend...

I am cutting most potatoes out of my diet (especially fries), but I was in Chick-Fil-A last week and thought I should go with something like Cole Slaw instead of fries. That changed when I looked at the Calories, Fat, etc. Cole Slaw was worse than the fries.

I hope you apologized and bought her a new thing of fries, at least. Wow. You're going to have to get a handle on this. Stealing someone else's food is an eye-opener, I hope.

It's more common than you think, though - I had a friend who could not leave a box of donuts alone - and everyone else who worked in his precinct (yeah, cop, donuts, go figure! grin) knew that they had to get their donuts before he came in because he'd eat the whole box right there. I talked to him once, and he said that if he knew the donuts were each laced with a lethal dose of poison, he'd still eat them, they had that much control. One day, he ate three dozen that had been brought in for an event and had a "SAVE FOR DEPARTMENT MEETING" sign on them. He got in trouble over that one, and that was his eye-opener and he started taking it seriously and sought help.

He finally ended up going the stomach-stapling surgery route to get it under control - it gave him a few months where he literally COULD NOT eat more than about a half donut because there wasn't room, and the decreased intake of sugars allowed him to break the cycle.

If they have that much control over you, you NEED to either find a way to fit them into your life in a healthy manner, which might mean giving them up for a while, or they'll derail you.

A small MickeyD's french fries is 230 calories, 11 grams of fat, 29 grams of carbs, and 3 grams of protein. There's basically no nutritional value and they are loaded with sodium. However, having one small fries every now and again isn't going to kill you if you make room in your diet for it. If you find yourself derailed by desire for them because you've given them up completely, allow yourself one small order per week, or every second or third day if you have to.
