Just started using the boards this week. Been using MFP on my phone off and on for quite awhile. I added a bunch of friends but the majority of them have had weight loss surgery. It's touch to relate because of the lifestyle change they are forced to make after surgery. So I am looking for some pals who have weight to loss. I want to lose at least 70 lbs. looking forward to making new weight loss pals.

Feel free to add me. I've lost 20 since Feb (10 before joing here) but I still have 20 to 30 (or 40 but I doubt that) The only surgery I man need is to have my man boobs reduce if they don't go down lol0

Welcome to the boards and all the best for your journey!0

I've lost 22 since January without any gimic/fad diet or surgery. It should be more, but the empty calorie monster has gotten his fat little fingers back into my eating routine. Slow and steady, slow and steady! Good luck in your journey, and feel free to add me if you'd like.0

Hey Karen I'm one of the people you've added and I'm curious as to what you know about WLS and what lifestyle changes we are "forced" to make that someone who chooses not to have WLS don't "need" to make? Granted I am FORCED to eat smaller portions but for ME I don't really see a difference with the LIFESTYLE choices I HAVE to make in order the lose weight and be healthy.
Just curious since you have been a weight loss counselor what you see if the "difference."

Feel free to add me. I lost 8 lbs prior to doing myfitnesspal. I just lost 3 in 3 weeks. It is tough but I am managing. :happy:0

Interesting. I had RNY in 2008 and don't see how it makes me any different than anyone else at this point. I have to eat right and exercise to keep the weight off just like everyone else.0

Hi, you can add me. I have lost 20 lbs so far. Twelve of those since I started using this. I have about 15 more to go.0

No weight loss surgery here. Also looking for pals for support.0

Hello, you can add me as well. I haven't had weight loss surgery, my doctor won't allow it. He told me to pull away for the table. And you know I got upset with him, now looking for a new doctor. I'm new to this as well, I started logging my food on Monday and looking forward to talking with you guys. Also I started the gym last week. I need all the suggestion and help that you all can offer.0

You can add me. I'm looking for some more friends. I have friends who have had surgery. It's not any easy way for sure, but I didn't want to do it. But I haven't always been overweight/obese. So I figure I should be able to lose it without surgery.0

Feel free to add me I have lost about 16 pounds in a month just eating healthy and regular exercise. I have over 100 pounds to lose so I am in this for the long haul.0

I want to add one thing... WLS and the word Gimmick should not be used in the same sentence. WLS is not a gimmick, it is a very hard decision to make for anyone, and is quite scary - however it has saved millions of lives. I say this with the utmost respect to anyone out there, no matter what choices we make.
Carry on.0 -
You can add me! No surgery or weight loss pills for me. I already lost 20 pounds and I still have about 80 pounds to lose.0

I do think there's a significant difference in the approach to life when your organs are literally 20% or less of the size of other people's. If the OP wants to be MFP friends with other people that have 100% of their stomach intact in order to relate better, get ideas for her own weight loss, etc. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I didn't read this as an attack on anyone who has weight-loss surgery- just a call to other people in the same situation as the OP.0

Hi, I was seriously considering surgery but decided to give it one last shot on my own.
Thanks to the support and focus MFP has given me I have now lost 25lbs in 9 weeks.
Feel free to add me0 -

This is in response to everyone on this post who has a negative view of WLS, or believe it's not done on our own, nor the "old fashioned way". The ONLY thing wls does is make your stomach smaller. WLS did NOT MAKE me work out, nor does it MAKE me eat healthier. It is no more than a tool to use, as is exercise! And just like if you don't use any other tool properly you can gain weight as well as get hurt. It was NOT my sleeve that made me get up at 4 this morning to workout. It was ME and my DETERMINATION!! It is a very difficult choice for people to make. Our "lifestyle changes" that we are "forced" to make are no different than YOUR'S when you chose to lose weight and get healthy. Everyone needs different tools to assist them on their journey. However, please remember, it is not the "easy way out" nor is it the be all end all of our struggles.
Now, that having been said... Everyone has the right to their own opinion/beliefs, and desires. I just wanted to put the other perspective out there - the one with the facts. I understand people thinking that we are so different and don't have the exact same struggles as non-wls folks. I respect the OP's right and choice to have pals who have not had wls. I wish you all very much luck on your journeys to health. That is, after all, why we are all here. To get fit and healthy.0 -
I'm trying to lose 30kg (not sure what that is in lbs). I want to try to do that naturally. no weight loss pills or shakes or surgerys. just food and exercise. plus I'm doing all my exercise with my 19 month old who is very impatient in his pram. I'm a full time student so he's already in daycare 40hr per week. and I spend my week sitting down in classes. I'm also lactose intolerant so that mixes things up a bit. But that's life. That is my mission. Feel free to add me. always looks for some new motivational friends0

hi and welcome, i too haven't had weight loss surgery and have lost 55 pounds to date. so feel free to add me, always after new mfp pals :happy:0

You are more than welcome to add me! I haven't had any kind of weight loss surgery and am working on my first 10 lbs currently. MFP is amazing and the ones who have had surgery are just as inspirational as the others. You should give them a chance because there are some great people here.0

Can those seeking to justify their WLS just stop attacking the OP???
She wants to be in touch with people she can relate to, people who use their will power and motivation to lose weight, and not go under the knife.
And to all those who say "it's the same" -- well IMHO it's not.
There is a difference in not having a choice but to eat smaller portions, or having to make that choice not to overeat every time you consume something.0
