Hi, my name is Julie and I am 33 years old, married with 3 kids. Sorry, I don't have a pic of myself. I need to get one added. I read your post and I too am looking for someone that can help motivate me to lose weight. I have also tried TOPS and weight watchers. I am married with three kids and I work a desk job that I have gained 10 pounds since starting this job. I have been overweight most of my life. When I was a little girl, my mom and I used to go to TOPS every week. It didn't really help me. I lost some weight in high school and it was really something I did on my own, so I hope that I can do it again since self motivation is really my only way to lose weight. I hope you respond to this post. I am touched by the loss of your husband and I find it very inspiring that you are doing something to improve your health! It is so neat that you are finding something that will help you get to a "normal" size. I understand what it's like to be overweight for long term. I still haven't lost the weight I gained from my third child. In fact, I am almost the same weight I was when I was 9 months along with her. Sigh ... Still, I love working with this site. I find it fun to see how many calories I have taken in, and how many I have burned. I am going to "trust the math" and hope that I can concentrate on calories in and out to lose my weight!

HI THERE, WELL I AM COUNTING CARBS AND HAVE BEEN SINCE APRIL 4TH,, AS IF TODAY I HAVE LOST 14 LBS...I FEEL ITS SLOW BUT WILL KEEP AT IT. ATKINS FOR SURE AND LIKE THE ATKINS BARS 2X A DAY TO HELP MY CHOCOLATE FIX. I HAD THE RNY SURGERY IN JAN, 2009. LOST ALMOST 100 LBS. AND HAVE KEPT IT OFF . I NEED TO EXERCISE MORE BUT IM LAZY....HATE EXERCISE UNTIL I START DOING IT THEN ITS OK. HAVE 2-3 SCRAMBLED EGGS FOR BREAKFAST WITH WHIPPED CREAM CHEESE, 2 TBLS.. HAVE COFFEE WITH HALF AND HALF, CAUSE ITS LOW CARB. HAVE SLICED ROAST BEEF, SALAMI, PRPPERONI, CHICKEN, CELERY, PEANUT BUTTER, BROCOLI, GREEN BEANS AND LOTS OF LETTUCE IN THE HOUSE..TRY TO DRINK THE WATER, I AM GETTING BETTER. I TRY TO KEEP A BOTTLE OF WATER NEAR ME ALL DAY. OMG, YES ITS HARD BUT I AM DETERMINED TO GET TO A NORMAL WEIGHT. HAVE BEEN OVER 200 SINCE 1970 WHEN I HAD MY FIRST BABY....HAD A WONDERFUL LIFE WITH MY HUSBAND, MARRIED 41 YEARS. BUT HE HATED THE WEIGHT AND GAVE A HARD TIME MOST OF THE TIME. YA GOTTA LOSE IT FOR YOURSELF, NO ONE ELSE....THINK POSITIVE, BE BRAVE AND FOCUS ON THE PLAN YOU HAVE. MAYBE NEXT YEAR I WILL BE A NEW PERSON. MY SISTERS AND BROTHERS ARE IN THE SAME BOAT SO WE ARE DOING THIS TOGETHER..THEY ARE 2 HOURS AWAY FROM ME THOU, I TALK TO THEM EVERY DAY....HOPE I CAN HELP YOU AS MUCH AS I CAN...YOU ARE NEVER ALONE, AND NEITHER AM I..TAKE CARE...

Thank you for your response. I have been exercising more regularly these last couple weeks. I have been do down because of my weight and because I haven't been feeling good about myself. I have realized that I have been so negative to my husband and family because of how crummy I have been feeling about myself. I am making a commitment to be kinder. I think I feel like I have more to give because I have been taking an hour about 3 times a week just for myself to work out and get my endorphin level rush. I have been filling my cup and so my cup has more to give to my family. I love that you have lost 14 pounds! That's super! I have lost 2 pounds so I am just starting. Keep up your great work and I hope you find some time to exercise and do it for yourself. You are absolutely right, no one can make you lose weight and you can't lose it for anyone else. Wanting a healthy body and working for it for yourself is the only way! Keep up with drinking water. I myself have a large cup at my desk I am working on right now! I love this program because you can use any diet you want - it's simply all about the calories in/out and choosing the best kind of calories!

    hi Pat

first of all I am very sorry you lost your dear husband, it seems you had many wonderful years together.
you also have some good support from your family members which is good, you can also have support and encouragement from MFP members, here you will learn all about nutrition, health and fitness, usually weightloss comes from about 90% food we eat and 10% exercise, so if you can try and fit some exercise into your plan. it would be good to add members as MFP friends so you can swap tips, recipes and receive and give help and advice.
All the best on your weightloss journey

Hi ladies! I would like to commend you both on all of your accomplishments...you are doing yourselves a great service. (Just think of your weight lost in terms of sticks of butter! 14 x 4=56 sticks of butter. WOW!!!!) Remember what you had to go through to lose those 14 Lbs everytime you begin to lose focus. Keep up the good work! It's not the hand that life gives you, it's how you play it back. Don't wait for summer to come (it will be here before you know it), think of it as New Year's Eve and you want to make a resolution. The resolution is a "New and Improved You". Start right here, Right Now! Tomorrow is not promised. We all have our struggles, but remember..."Troubles don't last always"...Be Encouraged!

Wow, thanks to both of you for your responses. Tezrah, I saw that you are almost if not already at your goal! Congratulations! And thanks for the sticks of butter idea. I'm going to remember that idea. My husband loses weight so fast so it is sometimes discouraging that I don't lose as fast as he does. But the butter idea is so motivating and visual. I love it! Thanks so much!
