Training for my first marathon! Anyone else?

I'm running the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon (http://www.mohawkhudsonmarathon.com/) on October 7th. This will my first marathon or race for that matter. I would say "I can run" but wouldn't call myself a runner (but I hope too!). I'm a very active person and have consciously included fitness in my lifestyle since I was 14. I'm motivated and plan to stick to my training schedule. I just graduated college and have some time this summer to train properly and focus on doing this the right way.

I'm not really sure what to do about nutrition but I'm researching and trying to learn as much as I can. As of now I'm going to be eating a net of 1600 I decided and up it from there if I find myself hungry or fatigues.Let me know if you have good marathon nutrition resources. I also hope to blog during this whole process but we'll see.

Anyone else? I haven't been very MFP social but feel free to add me. I'd love the solidarity :)

    Good Luck on your training! I just completed my first marathon May 6th. I have never been a runner and January when I started my life changing journey, my husband asked me if I would run a marathon with him and crazy me said yes. haha I told myself I wouldn't give up on this because I really wanted to complete a full marathon as a life goal. AND I DID IT and YOU CAN TOO!! I trained for only 4 months at a slow pace. I am a walker/runner and it took me 6:14 to complete it. My main goal was to just finish and I did.

    As far as nutrition, I ate almost everything still in moderation. I cut back on my carbs and dairy but later on with the longer runs I started having to add more carbs in. I tried to eat lots of protein which helped with my energy. Just see how your body feels and listen to it! :)

    Originally I was shooting for the Spartan Beast in VT in September as my major goal for the year. I've run 11 races already this year including 2 half marathons. I signed up for my first marathon on 10/20. I need to start doing some longer runs soon. Also signed up for my first Triathlon in June. :)

    I am shooting for the Oct 21st rocknroll marathon in STL. Haven't signed up yet but have started training. This will be my first. My biggest hurtle I am facing is proper hydration and nutrients during the long runs. I many times feel nauseous after eating the dried fruits during the run. Haven't tried the gels yet.

    Pretty impressive that your first race is a marathon. To get a feel for racing, pacing, ect I would suggest finding a half marathon to do when you are at that mileage in your training.

    I ran my first marathon March 2011. Then had a baby and am getting back into things.

    I have a 10k this sat, half marathon June 2nd, half marathon in Sept and a full marathon in November on the books for this year.

    I never tried the dried fruits but I have used the gels. The issue I have with them are that they make me super thirsty. I tend to be super hydrated normally so that helps me during my runs. I actually like the gummy type things during runs although they aren't the easiest to eat they have been better than other things i've tried.

    I was the same way... but GU packs do not make me nauseous. I really like them.

    During my long, long runs I would do GU and Gatorade and never had nauseous problems! Also, I would either eat oatmeal or a bagel with cream cheese about an hour before running and never felt sick, plus they lasted me a while. :)

    I might try the gummy type, maybe less grainy. The dried apricots (my favorite) makes me super thirsty. Thanks!

    I'm thinking of running a half marathon in September for that reason. If I stick my training plan I should be ready for that by then.
