To tramp or not to tramp that is the question...

I have been going back and forth for months about if I should get a trampoline or not. First I wanted a big one, but it would take up too much of my back yard. While my lot is not super small, the area that is actually grassy is not very big. Then after some time and consideration I decided against getting a trampoline. Too big, and possibly too dangerous. Now I am back on the trampoline bandwagon. My two older kids (One graduates next month, the other next year) are always busy off with their friends and my seven year old simply does not have the same type of freedom and he needs things to do at our house besides play video games/watch tv etc. He has a bike which is good fun, but there are limits to where he can go right now because he is still only seven. I was thinking about a smaller 8 foot trampoline with a safety enclosure. My older kids would probably not be able to jump on this because of weight restrictions (175 lbs) and a smaller trampoline leaves me with a good excuse when a bunch of kids want to jump on at the same time, “sorry its too small for that”. Which is one of the big safety concerns. But I still don’t know.

Too dangerous?

Also do you think 8 foot is too small?

I had a trampoline growing up at the neighbor's house, and it was awesome. Just supervise the kids so no one gets hurt or get a safety cage for it.

I grew up with one and loved it! I jumped probably almost daily during the summer. We loved to sleep out on it at night too!

We are planning on getting one that isn't too big with an enclosure for our little ones in a year or so. Right now they are (I feel) to small (nearly 4 and nearly 2). When I was a kid we spent summers bouncing away (without an enclosure) and there were only a few accidents. I would say go for it. You can get some fun and fitness out of it too :)

We have one.. and yes they can be dangerous.. Pediatricians see a lot of injuries from trampolines.

If you do end up getting one I do recommend a safety net around it. Boys play rough.. My two year old jumps and runs around on it like a pro right along with his big sister whom is 9 and her friends. He hasn't been hurt. You just need to make sure that if there are multiple kids on it that they are not wrestling or horsing around. That is when someone will get hurt.

That is what I have read. I have seen some crazy stuff on youtube! lol I figure when he gets too big for it, I will just sell it on craigslist and that will be the end of it. I don't really want a ton of teenagers breaking their necks on it.
