Hey y'all! I have had this app on my phone for over a year now and I still cannot get myself to really lose weight. I just graduated college and through stress and depression put on 50 lbs in just four years! I tried and tried to lose it. Bought healthy food, bought insanity, have a gym membership, and even bought pills. But nope, I am still packing the pounds. What I need is motivation! So help me out!!! What motivates you? Oh did I mention I even have a $100 bet to just lose 30 lbs by Christmas...still not working!! I do well for a week but then after that I lose the energy to go! PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!?? Any advice will be wonderful!

Have you been logging your exercise and calories? If yes, open your diary so I can give you some advice. If not, even on the days that you eat poorly, record it, and if you don't exercise, record what it was that made you not exercise.
An easy answer is laziness, but if you write out why you didn't work out, you may discover a pattern that you'll eventually be able to break.0 -
pills wont help, good food and a lot of cardio will.
one thing I do is not look at trying to lose weight.... instead I try and increase exercise miles. the more miles you exercise, the more weight will come off.
Movies like food inc, fast food nation, fed up, super size me, forks over knives etc has really helped. I am eliminating unhealthy foods simply because I don't want to financially support companies that are making us as a population sick.
wishing you lots of good luck!0 -
Pick a realistic goal - like "lose 1/2 pound per week" and eat all those calories.
Plan in some exercise 2 or 3 times a week.
Once you work out that it's really not that hard, you'll be more motivated to stick to it.0 -
I agree with what everyone mentioned.
For me, it helps to have a circle of friends on MFP. If you do not know anyone - invite a few friends.
Personally, that has been the saving grace for me. Having people on here motivate and cheer me on
has helped me accomplish some of my weight loss and fitness goals.
If you want, you can add me as a friend. I cheer my friends on.0 -
Focus on little things - don't try to do everything at once!!
Maybe in this first week, try to exercise (even if it's just a walk) for at least 30 minutes 3 times. Then in the coming weeks you can increase the number of times you exercise, or the length of time you exercise, and also add in some strength training once or twice a week.
Food-wise, start by logging EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth, regardless of whether you see it as 'good' or 'bad' food. You'll get to know what lets you down in your diet and then you can work on these things slowly.
Lastly, increase your water intake by one cup each day, until you're regularly drinking more than 8 cups of water a day. If you don't drink much now, try for 2 cups a day this week, 3 next week etc.
The more gradual the changes are, the less drastic it will be, and the more you'll be able to cope with changes. After you stick with it for a couple of weeks and start seeing results, that's all the motivation you need!!0 -
the only thing that helped me was to not go on a diet! when i used to diet, it never worked. this time around i never worried about losing weight. my goal was to get fitter, and my motivation was to be able to play with my kids properly.
through gettting fitter, my diet just dropped into line. i logged and weighed stuff to help me see how much i was actually eating, and changing my bad habits became easy. i also started viewing food as fuel, and when times came to reward myself for achieving things i would be sure NOT to be rewarded with food.
my thing became running. i started c25k in jan last year with the thought that if i can run for 30 mins without stopping, i can play soccer with my kids at the park without getting all red, sweaty and embarrassed at jiggling! so, my goal was only 9 weeks long (c25k is a 9 week programme). i wasn't thinking about 6 months away, i just took it in bite sized chunks. during that time, things just clicked into place for me. then after that i set up another goal, then another, then another.
so, i would say to you to make your goal something other than dropping lbs. have a fitness goal whether it's to run a 5k, swim 3k, bike 10k, zumba for an hr without stopping- whatever your thing is. and when you don't want to do it, have your motivational thought very clearly in your head (or on your fridge if it's something you can picture), so that when you lose your mojo (which we all do) you get back to it without leaving it too long. also, have rewards for yourself. i run, so my rewards have been tickets to races, clothes, trainers, etc. but nothing is as rewarding as feeling proud of yourself for achieving your goals.
good luck with it.0
