Bottom line, eat more. Fresh, non processed foods. Farmer's market needs to be your new best friend. You did nearly 800 calories worth of cardio one day, and only ate a total of 1200 something calories. Your body needs to net much more than 400 calories in a day.

Yes, up your calories. You might see a short term increase and then you will start losing again. It's the fastest route.

PLUS if you're training hard, your muscles might be retaining water (Hence the up 2lbs thing) -- definitely eat more!! You should NET 1200 a day minimum. period.

Read that article I posted. I don't think it's BS.

I just rean a report for May 1 through May 15th

You average 1,382 Cals a day...You burn an average of 210 per day via exercises....your NET Cals is 1,172....I am sure there are some serious experienced people on the MFP that will tell you that your NET Cal count is too low...

I personally am a big fan of consistency...And you haven't been consistent...On May 12th your Net Cals was 559 and on May 6th as high as 1857....

From my point of view you have not been consistent Your Net Cals are all over the place...

Either you have to maintain same net cals for your target weight loss

    OR

Eat the same Calorie intake every day to get a baseline for a couple of weeks...once you see your weakness make adjustments to your workouts and/or calories...

The article you posted advocates diet breaks, which i wholeheartedly agree with. However, to say that it's about "metabolism" is wrong. Metabolic slowdown/increase is a small piece of the puzzle, it's far more complicated than that. To quote from your article:
From a psychological and hormone standpoint dieting down can affect our bodies in numerous ways

The metabolic reset is a myth. People observe it happening because when you eat a ton of carbs (like double your normal amount), it does something with the water in your body and forces a bunch of glycogen into your muscles. You'll look way leaner in the mirror, and this can sometimes produce a short term drop in weight. The problem is that you're still stuck with science. Calories in are going to be greater than the calories out, so when your weight (water levels) evens out, you'd still be at a net gain.

Glanced at your diary and noticed you log all your exercise. What helped me break the plateau I was at, was not logging my exercise on this website. It was a psychological thing mainly, but it helped me keep everything in check. Your exercise should be taken care of with your normal activity level in my opinion.

seems like the more I read the more confused I get.... when I was younger I could do 1200 cals a day ...exercise and lose weight. At 43...it's just not working now...I mean, I have been doing this for a bit over two months and I'm only down 12 pounds? I'm not quite sure what I should be doing anymore.

1.5 lbs per week ? sounds pretty good - many would be envious.

well, at the very least I will increase calories...no sense in "white-knuckling" anything if the weight isn't going to come off any quicker...right?

^^^^ this. That's a great pace. If 1.5 a week upsets you I don't want to know what's going to happen when you hit a plateau or get closer to your goal and see like 1.5 lbs in 2 months....

I hear ya! I am 42 and was stuck as well. A couple of things I am doing now, no alcohol, no glutens, no juice or soda, mass amounts of veggies, lean meats/fish, no dairy or minimal, limit nuts, incorporate MCT oil and /or Organic Coconut oil. The biggest key is no processed foods!!! Take a good multi vitamin and get your Thyroid checked and a complete blood work. I have hypothyroidism for the last few years and going through menopause and put on 45 pounds it is going to take time to take this off but, it took time to put it on. Consistency is key it isn't going to fall off but, just log your food every day to stay in check once you start to feel better because you are eating well it really makes everything fall into place. Please feel free to friend me.
