Advice please

So i went to the gym yesterday and the trainer told me I should be eating before bed so my body isn't going too long without food... do you guys agree? I always thought you shouldn't eat too late? I'm confused.

    Not to worry, your muscle won't disappear overnight. You can eat right up until bedtime, you can eat in bed if you want and if everything you've put in your mouth that day is not over your allowance, then you'll wake up slimmer and with all your muscle.

    There's little impact that food timing has to do with weight loss/gain. I generally eat from 8 PM until I go to bed nonstop. Okay, to be fair, I generally eat from 6 AM to 11 PM nonstop. That being said, I think your trainer sounds very wise for giving this recommendation if you're waking up hungry . . . because it is the exact opposite of ho-science. 2 around the worlds and back snaps.

    If I'm hungry at bedtime, I eat something small, maybe a special K bar or a banana.

    Really? what happened to food lying on your stomach late at night... not burning it off? Eating like a king in the morning, pauper in the evening... etc. Sorry this just goes against everything I thought haha

    I've heard that its good to try and keep your blood sugar at the same level and long gaps between meals is no bueno but I haven't done any research on it.

    Your body is busy even when you're asleep. It's still breathing, pumping blood, digesting food, and most importantly repairing muscles.

    I like to eat a protein before I go to bed or sometimes a yogurt. ...If I eat carbs I wake up bloated feeling. If i dont eat at all I wake up weak and shaky.

    My trainer told me the same thing. I'm giving it a shot to see if it works for me, or if I feel like crap in the morning. So far everything is fine and I'm still dropping slowly but surely.

    If I'm hungry ate night, I'll eat if I've got the calories there (usually have a few spare every day). Body works round the clock so if it's begging for fuel, I'm gonna oblige :p

    While I don't always eat before going to bed, I do if I feel the need. Trying to sleep when you're hungry is not good. If you have some cottage cheese, it has a type of whey in it that helps you to sleep. It is also filling and good for you. Of course, there are other things you can have too. I know the old rule of not eating after five or eight or whatever. But your trainer is basically right. That is a long time to go without food and you body requires food throughout the 24 hour period. So, I'd give it a shot. You don't have to eat much. Just enough to feel comfortable. It certainly won't put fat on you if you stay within your calories.

    It doesn't matter when you eat. I typically eat 1900 calories between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm and walk down the hall, chewing my last bite, to bed. Hasn't had a negative effect on me. IF you have digestion (heatburn etc) or blood sugar issues (diabetic etc..) it really doesn't matter. I prefer to go to bed full.

    Yeah I will usually have something to eat really close to going to bed. I'm prone to terrible, lasting headaches and I find that eating as late as I can and then making sure I eat within half an hour or so of waking up, my blood sugars aren't dropping as low and I'm not suffering as bad as I usually am. Hasn't affected my weight loss at all! (I attribute that to the beer - LOL!)

Consuming all their calories for the day so that by the time evening rolls around and they start snacking and go over their calories for the day. Hence the "eating at night is bad" stance. If you enjoy eating at night just plan for it.

    Thats a really good point, I usually have about 300 cals to spare before bed so I'll have some proteinerific food then :-)
