Should I stretch after weights?

I'm a total newbie to weight training and have just got a small set of dumbells. Should I be stretching the tightness out of my muscles after lifting or leaving it be? (I hope that makes sense)

I always stretch after lifting and if I happen to be particularly sore after a work out, I will stretch before too.
My goals are slightly different though. I'm trying to get my flexibility back to get my butt back in advanced ballet0 -
Stretch after your body is warm. So yes stretching after you do your weights is the correct thing. It will pay off in the long run since our spend time in the weight room shortening the muscle...you need to lengthen out again. Also will help so your not sore the next day.0

The purpose of stretching is to get better at stretching. It really does nothing beneficial for your lifts.
There's no studies that show that stretching helps with DOMS or anything. In fact, it has been shown that stretching actually decreases the amount and intensity of weight you can lift, thereby decreasing your muscle gains and weight loss.
So in other words, stretching ain't all it's cracked up to be.0
