Scales!! Two different numbers!!!

So we have two...an old one and a new one. When everyone else uses it they are both the same but when I hop on I have one that has me maintaining (the newer one) and one that has me losing (the slightly older one), This entire time I have been using the newer one, but it seems to do this all the time and I can't let go of a loss if everyone else is weighing in the house is the same on BOTH scales....Do you think I should just switch and use the older one instead?

lol funny as it is ~ I have the same issue...
But it's my older one that changes its mind. Most of the time it tells me I weigh about 4 pounds more then the other one (not when my husband gets on it though!! Then its the same)... And sometimes it tells me I'm the exact same as the other...
ohhhh scales... how you trick us with your funny mind games!0 -
I would use the same scale you have been using all along.0

Use the newer one, or use the one that provides a body fat percentage estimate if one of the scales provides it. You should only be using one scale, and you should weigh yourself under the same conditions at roughly the same time each time.0 -
I have a newer scale that doesn't show changes in weight unless it's more than a pound or two. It just shows me the same weight if I was the last person to step on. I have to trick it by stepping on in with weight or having someone else weigh right before me. I don't know if this is your problem, since it sounds like you do have people using it regularly. I just thought I'd share.0

Pick one scale and use it. That's what I do.0

I agree with just sticking to the one scale, but a scale can make you nuts so I would also break out the tape measure and track your measurements as they are a really good indication of what is going on. I lost a quarter of an inch around my belly this week but the scale says I didn't lose any weight. I'll take the quarter of an inch LOL0

I don't even use a scale anymore. I don't trust them. My clothes are hanging on me, that's all I care about. I set my calorie goal to be maintenance for someone at my goal weight. I'll eventually get there. I work out all the time and log my food. It's made me a happier person.0

There can be a lot of variation in home weighing scales, depending on the quality, how they are made, even things like whether there is carpet underneath or hard floor can affect the reading. If you want a very accurate weight measurement, visit your doctor or a Weight Watchers class. But my advice would be to not pay too much attention to the scales - weigh yourself every few days if you like (always at the same time of day - morning is best, before breakfast) but also take body measurements and pay attention to the way you look and feel as well as how much you weigh.0

I was on a quest to get a new scale because everybody else seemed to be losing on their scale and I was not on my scale. Well, honestly I changed by diet and MY scale started moving again and two my scale (I noticed) only moved in half pound increments. So If my weight was like .2oz, it didn't change so my weight loss always has a whole or half pound loss. Now that I know that, I don't get frustrated with the scale, I tweak my diet to get the scale to move (which I'm doing right now). The other thing is, I don't know how close or far away I am in either direction like .5 loss could really be .8 which is almost at the next pound up or vise versa. I'm thinking about getting a scale that gives me the .2 losses. I know it will help when I'm discouraged that the scale is not moving. Just my thoughts. Much success to you.0

One is a Bowflex that I have never trusted but have always used and it is suppose to measure my BF and WW but it never has...does for my husband but not me...I figured I must have started (and obviously continued) way to high and now it can't possibly figure out my %'s. The older one is a weight watcher's scale that I love, but wanted to use the newer one and would have continued to use if we hadn't bought the newer one.
Edited to say...scales have never moved, they are on a hard surface0 -
Yes, stick with one and use it. A couple trips to the Dr's office had me shaking my head after being weighed in because it had to be wrong. I mean, if their scale is right and mine is wrong, then whatever I guess. One scale uses the old school metal kind with the measure stick on top, the other at a different Dr. is digital. I have heard their calibrations are probably way off with either type scales at Dr's offices and also because people step on and off, on and off all day long.
Mine (digital) has been very consistent through out my weight-loss journey. So, I go with mine.0 -
I bought a new scale from Bed, Bath and Beyond. That stupid scales is always changing every time I step on it. If I put my left foot down first it gives me a smaller reading than if I step with my right foot!! As long as its just a slight difference (which it usually is) like a lb then I don't pay too much attention to it. I weigh myself every two weeks on Saturday morning but I'm more into measuring myself now and paying attention to how my clothes fit.0

So do you suppose I could just switch permanently and stop using the newer scale? Do you think THAT would be a huge deal?0
-
If you take, say, 5 consecutive readings on each, are they each consistent?
Cos if they're both consistent with themselves, pick whichever you prefer and go with it. If one/both flits about, then throw it in the bin/something less melodramatic.0 -
find a solid floor. Your scale should be consistent every time you get on .. Hopefully you have a digital scale.. if not i recommend for accuracy.0
