So hungry and eating over my calorie allowance....

Hi all,

I just wanted to get some feedback about a concern that i am having. This week, I have been incredibly hungry. My diet has been pretty on target, but I am completely ravenous no matter what I eat.

I currently have a calorie allowance of 1200 calories. I exercise most days of the week and am trying to lose about 10 pounds. The past few days, I have gone well over the 1200 calories, and I haven't earned enough exercise calories to cover the amount that I am eating. I've been eating closer to 1500-1800 calories each day. However, each time I eat, I am legitimately hungry - it isn't mindless eating!

My question is this: Should I think about upping my calories for good or should I just chalk this week up to a hungry week and hopefully next week will be better and I'll be able to stay at my calorie goals?

Any input would be appreciated!

    Are you set to lose 1 lb a week? I'm not sure how it works (I'm a gainer) but could you take it down to losing 1/2 a lb to get a few more calories? I feel for you though, I have an insanely high metabolism and I was starving on 1600 so I honestly don't know how people do 1200 day in day out. Otherwise, i guess you will have to find really low cal filler foods (veggie stick's etc) and fill up as much as possible on those or alternatively high quality protein, which can give you a longer fill. I would really think about upping your cals if you are starving though. that's not fun! its one thing to be hungry, but to be that hungry sucks!

    I just checked something out today that I'm going to try, I bet you can eat more then the 1200 calories. First go to you tube and watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYi9xjIRvbY&feature=plcp

    Then go to fitnessfrog.com and go to the calculators and do your numbers for TDEE and BMR. Maybe this will help. I was told 1200 calories on myfitnesspal also but I'm upping it to 1300. If you excercise it will go up, maybe I should excercise, I hate exercising but the numbers say if I exercise 1-3xwk I can eat 1762!

    Are you set to 1 lb a week? Why kind of food you usually consume? Do you snak between meals? Are you drinking plenty of liquid? Do you eat really fast? How long have you been on the program? What kind of exercise are you doing? There are a lot of questions that, if answered, might help you find a solution.

    A few tips....

    - make sure you're weight loss is set to 0.5lb per week as goal and ensure you have your lifestyle properly entered. As much as you'd want that weight to come off quickly it won't so you need to go slower.

    - Are you eating enough protein? Drinking enough water? Our bodies tend to confuse thirst with hunger. You may feel hungry but you actually just need some water. Eating enough fibre? Not eating a lot of processed foods?

    - Eat slowly... takes less food to fill you up. Stop eating when you don't feel hunger anymore.

    Thanks for the responses!

    I changed my weight loss from 1.5 pounds per week to 1 pound per week and I gained an extra 170 calories, so that should be helpful.

    I struggle with drinking enough water throughout the day. I oftentimes forget to do so, and then I am unable to catch up or I remember to drink the water, but then I have to go to the bathroom every 30 seconds and I am unable to do that with my job, so I stop drinking it. I know that I feel much better when I do drink water, but it is definitely a challenge.
