Working out right when you wake up

I have been trying to work up the willpower to workout first thing in the morning at 4:30 during the work week. I am a morning person but I keep hitting the snooze, which is not the best way to start the day for me. Morning really would be the best time to fit in my JM dvds. I'm starting the Ripped in 30 challenge on Monday, so maybe that would be the turning point for me.0

I perform my main workouts in first thing in the morning but try to fit other exercises in throughout the day.0

I get up at 6am and I am at boot camp by 6:30. If I dont do it then, I wont do it.0

I prefer first thing in the morning, but I normally have cereal first. I thought you needed to kick start your body by eating, otherwise your metabolism wouldn't start properly. I wish someone knew the full answer.0

Usually I do it in the afternoon, but today I woke up for a couple minutes, had some water and went jogging. I really liked it actually, I didn't feel hungry while doing it and plus it's only going to get hotter throughout the day so I have to choose going early or late. I think I'm going to stick to doing it early since I'm getting a job soon and I'll work 3pm-8pm and I definitely won't want to workout after.0

Usually I work out in the evening because I'm lazy and always put it off until the end of the day. I wish I could do it in the morning though.0

You do not burn more fat if you skip breakfast before the gym!
Sorry to tell you this but you are burning muscle first if you do this not just fat!
I advise every one to eat a little some thing before you hit the gym unless its a light run for half an hr then you can get away with it but you do need to kick start your metabolism as soon as you get up.
Dont listen to everything you read try it for your self and you will also feel better for eating so why not eat? remember food is energy which your body needs to fuel your work out.
I use to fast then do my intense cardio sessions where i burn up to a thousand cals a session but since eating 50g of oat meal with half a banana and some protein powder i have found my results to be just as good as when i use to go fasting If not better because i perform a lot better and yes i also eat after my intense cardio sessions and have a protein shake.0 -
I don't have the ambition or energy to workout first thing in the morning. My workouts are pretty consistently after work about 6pm. Sometimes I do a workout even later, like 10pm before bed. I hear what people are saying about morning workouts being better.. but I'd half a** it. LOL0

Unless you have a valid and reliable link to a website that is endorsed by the American Medical Association, you shouldnt be advising anyone at all.
Not all of us advocated the no-eating-before-a-workout...
Ill let my sports medicine physician tell me what is best for me considering they have the credential to advise me...0 -
I'm on bicycle going to work within 20 minutes of waking up, I can't eat before or else I might vomit. I know it's 2 hours before I eat (the time I wake up, then bicycle, then shower, dressing up, getting at my desk and eating my breakfast) but that's the best scenario for me. I workout late afternoons too, but I feel it's better in the morning. My ride back home is often more difficult (it's around 80 minutes back and forth for a day), plus I do my P90x when I get home because bf is not an early riser.0

If I don't wake up first thing in the morning and workout, I WILL NOT DO IT!!!! It starts my day of really well. Getting out of bed at 4:30 a.m. is a total *****, but it's worth it.
Ditto.
If I wait, even half an hour, I'll find an excuse not to do it... ESPECIALLY after work, I'll go out of my way to create other things to do besides exercise. Weekends were a real bummer until I got a dog, plus now a friend is also interested in hittin' the gym with me.
As an aside... I'm absolutely NOT a morning person, and I'm whole-heartedly a night owl. I find that working out in the AM puts me in a better mood for the rest of the day, while working out at night keeps me awake for hours on end. This happen to anyone else? The insomnia thing, not the endorphin thing, haha.0 -
I work out in the morning after waking up, in the afternoon to early evening, then before I go to bed. I think that may be overkill, but I REALLY want my abs back.0

I tried exercising when early in the morning before the kids get up but I just can't! I stumble all over, have bad form and all that stuff. I usually get up, get a shower, get coffee, get the kids up.....0

Sorry im just going off what my strength and conditioning coach and nutritionist have told me who help me drop weight for many boxing bouts and they have always told me never to fast as you need to fuel your metabolism from the get go.0

If I don't work out early in the morning, I probably won't make it to the gym either because I end up working late OR I leave work at a decent hour and then just feel lazy! I do have to eat about 100 calories though and then I wait 30 mins before hitting the gym otherwise I don't have enough energy for my workouts.0

Thats the thing though - that advice was for your individual circumstance because they have your information right there in front of you.
My Endo and Personal Trainer who collaborate together advised me differently for me on my individual health and situation. I wouldnt recommend it for others because its similar to a prescription and care advisement.0 -
I am always driving around in my car for work, so my morning hours are typically spent frantically printing out reports, getting ready and rushing out the door. I am not the best morning person. So, once I get done with my day about mid afternoon I just mosey on over to the gym and do my workouts then.
However on Sunday I woke up at 7 am and could not fall back asleep, so I decided to just go to the gym and work out (a very strange decision considering my passion for the gym was at -500 3 months ago)...and I freaking LOVED it. It felt so good to kick off my day with a good workout! But...I do love my end of the work day gym visits too, because sometimes I have some frustrations that I need to kick out. So I am considering waking up a bit earlier in the mornings (shudder) and doing a workout then, and then finishing my day with strength training or a little cardio.0 -
i make too many excuses not to exercise at night.. maybe i should try waking up a bit earlier to exercise0
-
I prefer working out in the morning as the first thing...Then I won't end up not doing it with all kinds of excuses...0
-
being half asleep makes it go faster. i do about a third of my workout before breakfast.0
