Hot Dogs

I have been really wanting "normal" food. Tonight we grilled hot dogs for the family and I had 2 Hebrew national Low fat hot dogs. The flavor was really good but a bit dry on their own. I used one hot dog bun (opened faced), 2 hot dogs and 1/4 cup chili, mustard, onions yummy!!! normal food. The calories were very low just a little over 200. Then fresh fruit, one whole kiwi 50 calories. It was a great meal of "normal" so while it is not a recipe I encourage you to try it, almost feels like cheating w/out getting caught by the lbs.

Normal food? That seems foreign to me. Grill out! It is definately the time at least where I live to grill out. We grilled hamburgers and chicken. Stayed away from the hamburgers. I am going to have a piece of grilled chicken with a side of BBQ sauce, a crap load of steamed broccoli, and a salad. That is real food. If anything, a hot dog isn't. It's processed crap. Although, I do love hot dogs and Hebrew Nationals. You can literally grill just about anything!

I agree sometime you just need / crave a hot dog...

I love Jennie-O turkey dogs - sometime i will use one of the sides of a bun but usually I just eat them plain or not going to lie I still love pigs in a blanket so they have the reduced fat crescent rolls.

i still stay away from hotdogs/brats because of the sodium content alone for so many calories..but i am getting pretty secure with my restrictions and hope to work a few in soon!

I love Trader Joe's and Applegate types they are hormone-free, nitrate-free, 100% beef, uncured, etc.

So I am having the TJoe's jUMBO dogs tomorrow on the grill with peppers, fresh pineapple, etc. on skewers.

Hot Dogs (especially the all beef ones) are so good! Sometimes you just gotta give in, because otherwise, you'll just make the craving worse. I usually just try to "budget" for them, if I'm going to have them. They can't be the norm, but every once in a while is acceptable, I think

I go for the non-fat hot dogs (45 calories a dog) and Joseph's pita bread for the bun (45 calories a pita). Instead of relish I usually dice and mash a pickle to smitherings and I always skip the ketchup cause that is usually 20 calories a teaspoon. 90 calories for a hot dog on a "bun" is pretty good and mustard doesn't add much in the way of calories. If I am craving cheese, I slather a laughing cow cheese wedge on the "bun".
Ya know, just thought about this, but blending up some vegetarian chili beans would give a lower cal option to chili cheese dogs. 1/4 cup of Bush's chili beans is about 55 calories so all put together with the dog, pita, laughing cow cheese, and chili beans, that would equal 180 calories for each chili cheese dog. Eating just one dog and using the rest of the calories for the meal for veggies, that is pretty low cal for a "comfort food" meal that is not all that bad for you. If your meal stays at 300 cal or lower like mine do, you still have 120 calories for veggies and that is a lot! I might try this tonight!
