Calcium and weight loss?

I know there's been a lot of hype over the last few years about calcium and weight loss. Over the past couple of weeks I've been taking calcium twice/ day, and I've lost 8 pounds in the last 2 weeks with NO other real changes to my diet or lifestyle. I noticed last time I weighed myself that I seemed to lose a couple more pounds than I deserved to based on my diet, and now this week as well. I lost 5 pounds in the last week. That just seems crazy to me.

I'm not naive enough to say 100% that it's the calcium, but I find it interesting.

It may be worth quitting the soda/ diet soda at the same time. Carbonated drinks decrease calcium absorption, so you would probably get the biggest bang for your buck if you tried doing both at once.
  • What about sparkling water is that carbonated? I like to drink it mixed with fruit juice to cut down on cal and to get in more water...
I found some calcium supp at GNC for 99cent on sale and they have vit D and magnesium. 800mg
  • I found my answer but I also found some other research too... so maybe I should cut back on the coffee.. I pasted what I found below...

Effects Of Carbonation On The Body
    # It has been believed that carbonation has been the culprit to stealing calcium from the bones. However, new studies have shown that it is caffeine that effects the calcium in the bones and teeth, not carbonation. So even though sparkling waster is carbonated it is not the same thing as soda pop. Soda pop has large amounts of phosphates, caffeine, and sugar. Sparkling water has no more added phosphates than bottled water. It also has no caffeine or sugar.
    Purpose Of Sparkling Water
    # Many people drink sparkling water because it makes drinking water just a little more fun. Some like the taste but may not want all the calories and sugar that come with drinking soda pop.
