Have dealt with thyroid issues for years. I am now wondering if it would have been better to see a specialist rather than a GP. Very important to keep thyroid in good health. It can trigger so many other issues - which I am now dealing with. My weight is a constant battle. I am 70 years old so it took me lots of years to get to the point I am at now. If you can get yourself into a regular routine of exercise and good diet it will only benefit you. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2010. Getting your levels back into a proper range will definitely help you feel better and help with weight loss.

I take 175mcg Levothyroxine a day and I understand what you mean by being tired constantly. I also have RA which makes me tired, anemia which makes me tired and the meds for RA make me tired. I yawn constantly.
What has been helping me lately is the Wii Fit - I dont think of it as exercise because its fun. The more I do the more I dont want to stop.
Try your best and little by little you will find you have more energy but most of all DONT stop taking your medicine! If I go a week without it I feel the difference!
    Good luck to you!

I have had thryoid issues for years diagnosed as a teen, my three girls also have it. Take your med same time every day, makes a difference, as it balances the headaches should subside, limit your caffiene that helped me with the headaches, also increase water if your not drinking enough that helped me as well. see a specialist , and make sure to have your blood work done it took about 2 years for me to get the right dosage of meds, but I feel awesome now. I also walk, and walking has helped with the mood swings and depression that can be caused by it, and believe it or not that helped the most with my lack of energy. I started just walking around the house thru my rooms setting the timer on my microwave and now I walk daily minimum of 2-3 miles. YOU will feel better, the medicine works it just takes a little time.

Thanks...I feel I have fought this for a long while but finally getting my doctor to help me out. He said it was depression months ago and I took the meds he suggest but months later not any better. All the other symptoms seem to start in last 5 months. I want to see a specialist but of course gotta be refered for insurance. Hoping can get to that point soon. I'm happy to get any and all advise I can get :)

I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Prescribed Levothyroxine. Once my levels got back to normal, I felt SO much better. Take it slow. Eat healthy foods, and exercise 3-4 days a week. As for the headaches... I had them my entire life - until I hit menopause. Then they miraculously disappeared - except on occasional. It may be estrogen related. You should have all your hormone levels checked, and a birth control pill that keeps your estrogen at a steady level may curb your headaches. Go see an internist or endocrinologist, though. It shouldn't be ignored.

    Hey,

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last week and started the medicine they gave me; the Dr. said I will probably be taking that for the rest of my life! I feel tired all the time, and sleep 12+ and still wake up exhausted! I hope the medicine will help and that it will get better soon, which I am hoping it will in he next few weeks (as soon the medicine kicks in my system)
I hope you get better, try to walk and hydrate as much as possible. Also avoid stress!

    Good luck: smile

    Hello!
I had a total thyroidectomy back in 2003 so I'm hypothyroid. I take my meds every morning on a empty stomach. Once your levels are back to normal you will feel better. I have my days where I'm so exhausted and all I want to do is sleep all day. Once you start exercising you will feel 100 times better. Good luck :)

I have been hypothyroid since I was 11. I have been on the same dose of 50mcg Synthroid this whole time.

I don't remember what it was like not to be on medication, since that was forever ago (well, 14 years. :P), but I skipped my medication for two weeks when I was in nursing school a couple of years ago because my PCP's office line was always busy and I worked during their hours. Big mistake.. I was so out of it. I just felt like a zombie, I couldn't concentrate.. I just felt awful. About a week (or less) back on the medication, and I was back to normal.. It was amazing.

Now that my health insurance rocks and I have all of the specialists I could possibly need at my disposal right at work, I plan to go to an endocrinologist to let him take over my thyroid regulation. Not that I don't trust my PCP, but I feel like an Endo would be more open to options and, well, knows his *kitten*.

I had assumed the symptoms would go away for the most part, but I still struggle with being tired all of the time (when it can't be blamed on poor sleeping habits), dry skin, and the most annoying thing: Being cold all of the time! This makes winter absolutely unbearable. I even wear long sleeves in the summertime sometimes.
