First my background so y'all can give the best advice.
1. 191 pounds, 5'4" at my tallest.
2. I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome which is an endocrine disorder that can make losing weight difficult.
3. I don't care if I ever get super thin, but I want to be fit with in my healthy weight range.
4. I love food. I don't want to give up anything.
5. Just had foot surgery that keeps me from doing super intense work outs.

So, with that little bit of background do y'all think it is best for me to try for the 1200 calories a day or go for a higher calorie intake of 1400? I don't want to get frustrated at 1200 calories because I feel deprived but I don't want to eat higher calories and get frustrated because it's not coming off as quickly. So, what is a girl to do?

    Hi,

Garfield once said "diet is just the word 'die' with a 't' added". I also had foot surgery and have been using myfitnesspal for 107 days. I have combined the suggested calorie count (after marking exercise as "seditary") & combined it wil a no carb diet. So far I have lost 39lbs or 17.5kg. I am not hungry at all and still do no exercise. I know as i loss more weight i am going to have to start to exercise to keep the weight loss going.

My typical diet (based on 1330 calories) is:

Breakfast Omlette or Bacon & poached eggs
    Coffee
Lunch: Fruit or ham & salad
Dinner: Meat/Chicken & veg (usually pumpkin, cauliflower & brocolli)

    Good luck.

Hmm - maybe low-intensity exercise, coupled with a quest to find the fruits & veggies you already adore? :)

I find that you can always eat the most when you're eating whole foods, fruits & veggies. Also, drink a TON of water - it'll help you feel full and less deprived. For me, veggies or no, eating just 1200 calories gives me a headache, so I would guess 1400 plus exercise is best.

For impatience- what works for me is weighing every day (I know most people weigh weekly) - seeing progress, even a tenth of a pound down gives me something to look forward to every morning, and motivation to keep working out and counting. Then, you can post your progress on MFP for 7 times the cheers, too :)

    You've got this chica!! :)

Wow! Tough one. Could you ask your gyn? He (or she) might have a good take on it.

For reference, I eat 1k cals a day but I'm only 5'1" tall (unless I'm on my tiptoes  ). I work out slightly some weeks, awesomely others and I loose .5 - 2 lbs a week. I think calorie goal depends partially on current intake. I've never eaten a lot so the doc feels 1000 cals is good for me. Remember, as important as cals is what you eat. Make certain you are getting the protein, calcium, vitamins, etc. you need, too. I take 4 vitamins each day (1 multi w/iron, 1 for bones, 2 fish oil for cholesterol) or I feel like crap and don't loose anything because I don't have enough energy to exercise.
