Insanity/running hybrid

Hi all!

Monday I will start the recovery week of the Insanity program. It has been awesome so far but recently the weather has broke here and I'm itchin to run again! This past week I did insanity and sprinkled in some runs when I could.

With a 22 month old and a 3 month old, I can barely find an hour a day to work out (usually first thing in the morning before they wake up) so doing something like running in the mornings and Insanity in the evenings will not work for me (nor do I think it's safe!). But I am interested in doing a hybrid and I wanted to know if any of you good folks have done an Insanity/running hybrid? I'm thinking of running 3 days a week and doing the second month of Insanity 3 days a week.

Thanks!

I just started my 2nd week of Insanity and I'm a runner too! I've been missing my runs. I plan on running on the Cardio Recover days from now on. Yesterday was my "off day" and I ended up going for a run. I don't like to sit still, even for an off day, so I did a light run. The recovery week I'll be running as well. I don't want to lose all the progress I've made this year with running, and I enjoy it, so I'd like to keep up with both.

Yeah! I plan on running next week too along with recovery. How do you like it so far? Everything I read on the running sites says that this program is great for building core strength. Just worried about over doing it. I think alternating the second month every other day with running will work for me. We'll see and I'll let ya know! I've heard that lots of people give up during month two so fingers crossed! My husband thinks I'm crazy lol

I'm training for a half marathon right now and I run 4 days a week. I do Insanity on 2 days a week and take one complete rest day after my long run day. You're not going to see the same kinds of changes you see in the 60 day before n afters, but it's a great workout IMO. Do it!

Mrsbigmack, I want to do a half in October. My training should begin just after this "hybrid" I've came up with. Have you ran a half before? It's always been a dream of mine so I'm hoping I can go through with it!

Susabelle, have you had any huge loses? I have maybe lost 3lbs but I feel great. Kind of the same response I see from others on here. It has been almost two years since I've actually ran (back to back babies) and last week I ran 1.6 miles without stopping at a 10 min mile pace thanks to Shaun T!

Most people I know gave up during the first few weeks because of weight gain. I've gained about 1.5lbs, but I know it's either muscle or water, so I'm not ready to quit. Plus, I hate quitting! I did just fine running on my off day. I'm going to run on Cardio Recovery days from now on. Probably just 3 miles or so, nothing too hard. My husband is a Marine, so he kinda looks at me like "wow, you're in really good shape!" LOL! You bet your butt I'm in good shape! Well, I try to be at least.

I ran a half once... in 2003. Shortly before getting to my goal weight on a journey to lose almost 60 lbs. That was before getting married, having two kids, being widowed, getting remarried and moving 400km from home... it's a beautiful goal that challenges both the body and mind. It's good to put yourself into something so rewarding. I'm totally stoked to do it again :D

I've only lost 2 lbs..........BUT I've lost 16 inches overall and feel so much better and can touch my toes again, LOL I have a lot to drop so it is more than one round of Insanity for me.........but I LOVE IT!!

I see no problems with it. Most of Insanity is about cardio. So if you skip an Insanity day and replace it with running, you're still getting the metabolism benefits. It just means your Insanity will take longer than 60 days. I bet most people doing Insanity take more than 60 days anyway since they probably take time off.

    Don't worry about it!

I started with Insanity, finished the 60 days then took some time off. Then for a while I was doing a hybrid, it definitely helps with running because of building your endurance and your core strength. But yeah depending on your diet you could see some gains for the first few weeks, you're working almost every muscle in your body, and you'll retain water like you are. So I wouldn't really recommend it for losing weight, but it will get you into shape.

I wouldn't worry about it! Do you have a coach for your insanity program? Beachbody offers free coaching along with the workouts to help you with questions like this or about the workout itself! My friend is actualy a coach, doing insanity, and is also a runner! We also have a motivational group on facebook if you would like to join that is about health and fitness! I am down 60 pounds and loving it!!! What's your email address that links to your facebook?
