sodium?

So, I have always stayed at or under my calories. Yesterday I had a crazy amount of sodium, but was still
under my calories... today the scale was up a bit. (like a lb or more). Im wondering if it is do to all the sodium
and if i drink a ton of water today, will i get back to where i was???

Yes, sodium causes the body to retain water, which causes a temporary weight gain. No real need to drink a TON of water, if you're already getting about 8 glasses a day it'll flush the sodium out in a day or two.

Sodium does crazy things to weight. Salt/Sodium causes you to retain water, which of course adds weight. Have you ever had your rings feel a little tighter or looser than normal, or had really bad sock marks on your ankles? I have a heart condition and have to weigh myself daily, there are days when I am 4 or 5 pounds heavier from one morning to the next.

Drinking water will help, but if you don't limit your sodium it can actually cause you to retain more water. But then again, if it was only one day where you had a crazy amount of sodium, I wouldn't get too concerned. Return to your normal diet while paying a little closer attention to the sodium over the next few days and you should be back to normal in no time.
  • Sodium is as bad as sugar, just a pinch here and a dash there can quickly add up to unhealthy levels of sodium. Consider that just one teaspoon of table salt has 2,325 milligrams (mg) of sodium.

Keep the salt away from you!

Sodium is a horrible little creature that can easily sneak up on you. I have 6 hot wings yesterday which was just over 2000 mg of sodium IN 6! I weighted this morning and was 2 lbs over what I was yesterday, it make a HUGE difference. Drink water, flush it out and now you will know what to watch out for or be prepared the next time you venture into sodium land.
