Best ways to perform HIIT while running?

My sister and I are going running tonight and after doing our stardard mile I wanted to start incorporating some high intensity interval training. So what are the best ways to do this while on a run or jog? I was thinking jog 2 minutes, sprint 1 and so forth.

Is that an okay routine or would you suggest other? Thanks in advance!

    I like tabata intervals. 20 sec on 10 sec off for 8 rounds. All out sprints each time

    I ususally do 1 minute walking 30 seconds running
