Hi, wondering if anyone has any tips for dealing with low blood sugar spells? When I get them they come on fast, and I have to get a shot of sugar as quick as possible. It happened today at work, i felt the shakes and the sweats coming on so I grabbed a couple snack size bags of skittles. They got my sugar level back up, but I have also had gastric bypass, so sugars make me feel sleepy and sluggishish, so it was a struggle to get through the day. By the time I got home from work I got tired of fighting the craving to binge and I gave into it - that shot of carbs from the skittles was like a drink for an alcoholic. Now I feel like the day was a complete bust, I went almost 1000 calories over my goal and have that food bloat exhaustion so there is no way I am exercising today. I had my usual breakfast - protein shake with a little fruit and crystal light, not sure what caused the spell. anyone else dealing with this?

bump. I feel your pain. Fiber and protein seem to help me but I'm still searching for a balance. I try to always have a healthy snack like a protein bar or fiber one snack on hand for those crashes. Sugary foods are a quick fix when I need it but they lead me on a downward spiral too.

My daughter is hypoglycemic. Instead of candy, she uses Glucerna shakes (come in a can or bottle from grocery store), granola bars that also have some protein or homemade energy bars - found recipe on backpackfoods.com. Prevention (small, healthy snacks) so as to not "crash" is really important.
