Tankini or Bikini?

Ive lost 20+ lbs and am much more comfortable in my skin, but I still see myself in the mirror as the 190 lb person. This weekend I broke out of my comfort zone and sported a bikini while I sunbathed in my own backyard. I felt hideous, but my kids and hubby were complimenting me all day on how much "better" I look & they say I should wear the bikini at the beach and on vacations. I have always been uncomfortable wearing a bikini (even when I was 118 lbs! I was so stupid) so it's tough to agree with them. Im SO sick of always covering up and am considering going to the next level and wear the damn bikini on my next vacation to Vegas.
Tankini or bikini?? What would you do? Will I ever be comfortable wearing a bikini?

I am 120lbs and in pretty good shape. I will never be comfortable in a bikini. I just feel ugly in one. I am planning on buying a new one this year.
Just go for it! If your husband thinks you look good in it then just try to be comfortable.0 -
If you feel comfortable with a bikini do it ! But if not go with the tankini, you want to enjoy your vacation not be constantly worried about your body. Or have a cover up with you that you can tie around your waist. Either way you will be beautiful I think you look great in your pic0

Whichever one you are comfortable in. I bet you look awesome in a bikini, but you have to be confident/comfortable in it.0
-
I vote for whichever style will make you feel comfortable and confident. Confidence is sexy! Besides, there are some reallllllly cute tankinis and one-pieces out there. Bikinis aren't the end-all, be-all!0

Bring both and see how you feel when you're there. The first day, maybe, wear the tankini and then take it from there. I bet once you see other people sporting their bikinis (with imperfections as well) you will get motivated to wear yours0

All great advice and ideas! Thanks much girls! Maybe these next two weeks of disciplined eating & working out will help build the confidence I need to wear the bikini.
I will take both on vacation & take it from there0 -

I want your abs!!! Are you kidding me, thats ridiculously awesome!0 -
Aww, thanks. I never imagined that I will have any definition in my abs. So I am sure you can have it too.0

i am comfortable in a bikini no matter how big i am. And everyone seems to like it...even when I was 174 lbs.0

I was just at the beach this past weekend and felt uncomfortable in my bikini-at first-once I got out there and saw all the other people that were sporting them, I felt fine!0

I have known very fat women who are comfortable in bikinis. Mine is not to judge and I applaud their body acceptance.
If you feel uncomfortable, you'll act uncomfortable, so I wouldn't. Why fight it? or start with a 3 piece and see how that goes.. then peel.0 -
If i can throw my two cents in... i prefer a one piece on a woman more than a bikini. you might think i am weird but i love how they hug the body... :happy:0

It's all dependent on how you feel. If you feel confident and sexy, then you probably are, and from what I see, you could definitely pull it off. Me on the other hand, I have horrible self confidence issues, so tankini and board shorts for me!0
-
I don't think I'd ever wear a bikini either. They're too unforgiving. I've worn tankinis and swimdresses for the past 12 years and I don't think I'll change that anytime soon.0

i really like the one peice0

If there's people working fatkini's, you can most def rock a bikini!0

I just went shopping yesterday for work out clothes and a bathing suit.. I'm tired of always being covered up and want to feel inspired to continue to work out.. so I compromised. I bought a bikini top, but opted to buy swim shorts until I feel comfy enough with my bottom half to go all the way.0

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in! My best friend is a rock solid size zero with a 'perfect' body and she wears nothing but one pieces, she just feels better that way. There's no rule that says you HAVE to wear a bikini to look good. Besides, confident and a bit more covered is WAY sexier then Bikini and self conscious!0

One piece swim suits are no longer ugly, most have a cute low back or cut out on the sides, I find they look sexier than a regular bikini with everything showing at once.0

What exactly is a fatkini?0 -

I just bought a bikini, though no clue if I'll feel comfortable enough to wear it in public. On the other hand, the only person I need to impress is myself (and the bf, but he'd still want me in a bikini if I gained a bunch of weight back, so that doesn't count.) There is the option of a monokini? More revealing than a tankini, but depending on the style, it can cover whichever spots you're self conscious about.0

I personally will always have a tankini. i think only my hubby should see me in a "bra and underwear" style attire. lol even if i had a body to win a bikini competition i wouldnt be in one. thats just me though. :-) do what you feel comfortable with0
-
Whatever you are comfortable in. Nobody is perfect, and you are just as worthy as everyone else. I am going camping in 2 weeks, and will, for the first time in my 25 years of life, be wearing a bikini. I have frankenstein scars, and stretch marks that reach up past my belly button. But i am proud of me, and i will rock it and not give a s*** what anyone else thinks.0

Wow, lots of great opinions out there. Honestly, I envy those who have confidence to wear a bikini, and I respect those who are satisfied with wearing a one piece. I personally dont like one piece bathing suits (I just think they are not sexy), except for the monokini (great idea!). My problem is my self-conciousness. Life is too short and I just need to get over that already!
I need to look up the "fatkini" , haha...never heard of it!
Heres the plan...Im going to not give a **** and if someone has a problem with what they see, they can turn the other way!
Thanks for all the encouraging words and motivation!0 -
All you gotta remember is that while people are busy checking you out and maybe judging you you are also checking people out and maybe judging them. It's just natural. Now think how long you spend contemplating each person you see, a minute, 30 seconds? Maybe not even that long, so yeah people will see you, they might think something about you for a split second but that will be it, then they will be thinking about something else.
Is it really worth all this stress over a few possible seconds in someone else's brain? I don't think so.
I
Besides, looking at your pic I don't think you will have any thing to worry about0 -
I take both with me, the last time I was away was nearly two years ago at about14-16lbs heavier than I am now but I wore a bikini and felt great.
As iv gotten older and taken a note from my younger sister book. When im on holiday im there to enjoy myself, relax and spend time with my partner. We are the only two im concerned about and dont give a hoot what other people think.
Even better this year will be our honeymoon and fingers crossed I should be at or very near my target so I will care even less lol !0 -
IMHO your photo suggests you definitely have the figure to rock in a bikini.
But it's about how you feel. Nobody really pays attention when you are laying there soaking up the rays but if you are less comfortable when walking around, then a sarong looks great and draws attention away from the bits you may be more self conscious about!0 -

I like this idea! A pretty sarong when Im walking around is just the thing I need! I was thinking of shorts, but a sarong is much cuter. Thanks! And your right, I dont notice bodies laying down sunbathing.0
