I doubled everything to make 16 brownies. Original recipe makes 8.
( Someone probably already posted this recipe, BUT I DONT CARE. )

1/4 cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
3 tbsp tofu
1/3 cup applesauce
1 tbsp oil
2 tbsp almond milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
( I added walnuts in the next batch I made and then tried adding peanut butter in place of the oil  )
optional: chocolate chips ( I added dark chocolate chips and that only made a 13 calorie difference )
Combine all dry ingredients, mash tofu and wet ingredients VERY well before poring into the dry stuff. then pour into a 4×6 oiled pan (or double the recipe and use an 8×8). Cook for 12-18 minutes at 325

    Cocoa Brownies
    Makes 16
    Prep time 10mins
    Cooking time 20-30mins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 Celsius)
Stir 2 eggs in with 1/2 cup sugar (can add zero cal sugar substitutes to cut cals more) and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Add 1/2 unsweetened natural apple sauce.
In separate bowl sift 3/4 cup baking coco with 2/3 cup of wholewheat flour, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir into egg mixture.
Spread into greased 8x8 pan sprayed with light cooking spray.
Bake for 20-30 minutes and enjoy!

    Notes;
For lower cals add a sugar substitute instead of regular sugar
To increase protein add a scoop of protein shake
You can purée fruit (strawberries) etc.) instead of adding the apple sauce. But make sure you end up with the same amount

    65 calories in one serving

    12% protein

    Hi
Can someone tell me what the applesauce looks like? I see it in a lot of US recipes - I am in Australia and it is not a common ingredient here. Is it just stewed apples mashed up? It seems to be a good low cal substitute, what do you use it in place of eg instead of eggs? fat?
    Thanks!

That is basically what Apple sauce is. We buy it at the store and it is in a jar. But when it is made at the factory or Apple farm, they mash them up. You can use Egg Beaters to replace Eggs, it is just a lower calorie substitute.

These brownies sound really good btw. I love the idea in the second one to add protein. Yum!

Sounds great! Does it matter what kind of tofu you use? Like silken, firm, etc?
