Looking for friends

Hello, I was introduced to it by a friend in a pub, which is a weird place to discuss weightloss but I'm glad it happened.

My name is Melanie and I am a 20 year old student from Australia. I am looking for friends to share the weightloss journey, where we can motivate one another, discuss the hardships and push through together!

I update this every day, and when I'm not obsessing about what to eat or trying to get myself to exercise I am flicking through hundreds of tumblr photos for motivating and inspiring weightloss photos. I am totally willing for a chat about anything.

I was told by my doctor I was overweight while assessing my numerous other problems haha, so for most of 2012 I have been eating whole good foods. So transitioning to MFP and just tracking it was very comfortable for me.

Please no negative comments/people, I'm a very pessimistic and negative person myself and this new lifestyle has filled me with a light and energy I haven't enjoyed since I was a kid and I feel like I can take on the world but bad comments still hurt and people outside of weightloss communities ridicule those who count calories pack premade snacks and I'd really like some positive people in my life.

I'm taking this day by day and I can use some help :)

    Hello Melanie

My name is Julie and I am from the UK, just outside London.Good for you, what excericse are you doing? It is tough but at least you are doing something about, if nothing else then this website makes you mindful of what you eat and what excerise you do.

I personally hate exercise other than walking or maybe cycling but I heard so many good things about Zumba (great for burning up lots of calories) so I go with a friend of mine and it is great fun and although the moves take a bit of getting used to they are quite repetitive so over time you get the hang of it. I have terrible coordination and the best advice I was given was to concentrate on your feet and then worry about the arms later. There was another member there and she had lost 5 stone through calorie counting and zumba.

The other boring bits of exercise like toning at home I do to zumba radio on the internet as the music is quite addictive and a great distraction.

Food wise, don't store junk food, just some occassional treats in the house. Dont' deprive yourself completely otherwishe you will just give up. Eggs, great for you but also suppress your appetitie naturally, I have 3 hard boiled for lunch and same with green tea.

To kick start my diet I tried the Dukan diet and it is a fast way to lose a bit of weight and get you motivated but you have to be a meat eater. I lost a stone doing this diet as you are not restricted on quantiy but quite frankly you get quite full on protein as this is what the diet mainly consists of.

    Good luck

    Julie

Hello Julie, just yesterday I quit the gym (it sounds counter productive I know), but I haven't got a reliable work out partner at the moment and I can't justify spending the money and not going. I have started Insanity workouts at the beginning of this week and my goodness I can tell you that I am very unfit for my age :P Other than that I have to walk every where and I work in a laboratory and I spend a lot of my time scurrying around making things on my feet. I'm interested in buying a fitbit or some other product like it to count the calories I burn and my heart rate to get an accurate measure of the calories I burn during my day and exercise but it is very dear, and very hard to get to Australia.

    Hi Julie!

Welcome - I'm brand-new here myself. You might not want to quit the gym just yet - I too, don't have a workout buddy and find it near impossible to motivate myself some days, but you have to want to do it for yourself.

I'm from Pennsylvania, PA, and while I'm not around the corner from you, maybe we could be long-distance workout partners?
