I started using myfitnesspal on my smartphone back in March. I don't know why it took me this long to check out the website! I had emergency spinal surgery at Christmas and was not allowed to exercise at all until the end of March. (I couldn't even pick up a gallon of milk!) So, my weight loss progress in Weight Watchers was ruined, I stopped paying for WW and some of the medications I took put all the weight back on that I had lost. In March, my friend, Sally, told me about myfitnesspal. Since March, I have gone up and down, but need your guidance. Are there any former WW members using myfitnesspal now? I really don't want to go back to WW if this program works better and it's free! Unfortunately, since March, the meds. I've had to go on for my recovery have stymied my weight loss efforts. BUT, I'm optimistic that I can really use the myfitnesspal program and lose weight with it. I need to hear what you all have to say!!! I am 5'3", and weigh 200 lbs, with hypothyroidism; so that makes it doubly hard to lose weight. Just saw my Endocrinologist yesterday and she's concerned with my weight being so high (so am I.) Anyone have any advice on losing weight with the myfitnesspal program? Thank you for listening.

I am 5'3" and 200lbs as well. Just started. Basically, what I'm doing is watching my caloric intake (but not too low now) -MFP has a great food journal log, and starting to exercise (mostly cardio). Feel free to add me as a friend :)

I have done WW several times before, with some success, but obviously put it back on (otherwise I wouldn't be here on MFP). I'm half way to my goal & I feel great. I basically just try & stick to my calorie count which is 1200 a day, some days I go over a little but that's ok. I just try & eat as much fresh unprocessed food as possible & water is my new best friend lol. I have increased my exercise since joining MFP & I feel great for it. Even if you just move more to start with, just do what you can. Different things work for different people, I would suggest to just keep it simple to start with. I will send you a friend request :flowerforyou:

I am 4'11" and started last June at my highest weight ever...164 pounds. My cholesterol and triglycerides had shot up and I couldn't stand looking at myself anymore. I'm 57 years old and after menopause it is very hard to get the metabolism jump started. I am now down to 142 ish and want to lose 10 more. With a better diet and lots more exercise, I feel great. My cholesterol and triglycerides are normal, I have so much more energy, and my mood is happy and chipper everyday.....

I know people who have tracked their points or calories on MFP, but really it is about logging everything you put in your mouth, tracking things like protein, fat, carbs, sugar and sodium (women over 50 should try to limit daily sodium to 1500 grams, and most of all get moving. Start slow and walk daily if that is all you can do, then add other things that you might like to do. Some use a gym, and some do it on their own with dvd's.....just MOVE your booty.

Add me if you would like a friend to cheer you on to victory. The most important thing is that you have to be ready to be successful and want to make a positive change in your life!!:drinker:
