Will my butt get flat/go away after becoming fit?

Okay so it's time for me to face reality and prepare myself...

The question is fairly simple: If a young lady such as myself tends to have a plump rear before starting a hardcore exercise routine, and if it clearly consists mostly of fat, although there is a little muscle underneath...will it be gone along with the rest of my fat after a few months of rigorous training? I mean, I do expect at worst, some loss of inches. However, I need to know, is it common for someone to go from big butt to NO BUTT after becoming more fit?

Lastly and most importantly if I do lose most of my bum fat, through specified resistance training, about how big/round can I make my gluteal muscles, on average? I know this probably ranges like crazy but just based on what you think or have experienced...

Sorry if this question seems silly to you...but I like big butts and I cannot lie
yall otha brothas can't deny

Indeed! It's not something I would sacrifice my fitness goals over but I do hope to keep my bum relatively the same, it's the only thing I've always like about myself *sigh*

Depends on your genetics. Some don't lose much, some do. But the great thing is that you can build your butt up with exercise.

Weighted squats and lunges...that is all I have to say.

Well based on every female in my immediate family I have to guess or at least hope I am genetically inclined to have a prominent bum.

    And, yay!

Anyone have any glute-specific resistance training exercises to recommend? I already am pretty good on lunges

My butt got bigger. The key is strength training.

It's higher, and rounder. All around better.

No, it will not go away lol.

I've always had a large behind. I've lost 55 lbs and my butt is def still there!

it's mostly genetic. you either have a big booty or you don't. i can tell you from personal experience, that my butt only gets proportionately bigger as i get thinner, when i was 60lbs lighter, i had a sweet *kitten* booty. :) to give you an idea, i have lost 20 lbs in the past two months, and 5 inches from my abdomen. what have i lost from my hips/butt? .5 inches! lol.

I have always had a big butt! Yes, it has gotten smaller, but it is still big and round. I think if you have a naturally big butt...you are just going to be a skinny girl with a big butt. Genetics baby!!! :drinker:

my butt has "lifted" and gotten bigger since lifting. it looks much better since becoming fit. so although you may lose some fat, i think you will still be happy with it.
  • thanks for the input guys! I think that I have to suck it up and forgive my genetics for the stretchmarks...totally made up for it with the bubble butt \m/

Your butt will become very firm and upper when you have more muscles. It will look smaller too, but I know fitness trainer girls have actually big butt in inches, which looks small, Muscles take space

I do not have a big booty. When I was fatter, my butt was just wide and flat. Since I started lifting weights, it's looking MUCH better. I was so pleased with it, I even sent a picture to my bff. I'd post the pic, but I still have 40 lbs to go and I'm fairly certain nobody wants to see my 175 lb butt.
  • I think it will shape and reduce but it will still look nice or even better.
