Juice Fast Question

Has anyone done a juice fast before?
I'm on day three of a ten day fast and I've really not experienced any hunger yet.
Is this normal?
I'm doing it to cleanse my system, and to help my wife jumpstart her diet and I truly expected to be starving and miserable by now.
I still have the impulse to pick something up and chew it, but no hunger to speak of LOL

From what I've read, you're not supposed to be hungry on a juice fast. If you are, it means you're not drinking enough.
My husband and I are planning to start a 10 day juice fast on Monday. Are you and your wife making your own juice, or are you buying it pre-made?0 -
Which juice fast are you doing? I'm interested in it but there are so many out there... this would be my first fast. How long are you planning to fast?0
-
I'm on a mostly green vegetable and leafy green fast with a small amount of fruit mixed in so it taste a little better.
Trying to do at least ten days, then transition to only vegetables for a few days before going back to my normal, fairly clean eating.
Today I used sweet potato instead of cucumbers, YUM!
We are juicing our own here, I guess that's much better as it tends to go bad after a few hours, from what I've read.0 -
Hey, I am also on day 3 although I am having juice & soups + salads for the first week..At the end of this week I plan to go to only juice although if I am losing weight this way I will stay like this until there is a change.
I haven't tried sweet potato yet but I certainly did not get along with cabbage! I have tried both red and green (with carrot & apple) and alone with apple and the sulphurous smell is not appealing! I really like celery in the juice, and very much enjoy any juices with spinach. I am also not at all hungry but do seem to want to just pick at things and have to remind myself not to.
I feel much more lively today and have been quite energetic (I suffer from chronic fatigue amongst other things).0 -
We're going to do ours using pre-made juices, the ones made by Naked, Odwalla and Bolthouse Farms. I don't think I have the time available to make it myself every day, we've got two kids and we both work full time.
Titletown, are you working out while on your fast? My husband and I both play hockey and I'm a little concerned as to how the fast will affect our ability to play. Do you feel tired or dizzy at all?
Sorry I'm asking so many questions, I just don't know anyone who's actually done a juice fast and I'm trying to get as prepared as possible. Thanks!0 -
I went for my normal 3 mile fast paced walk yesterday for the first time and didn't notice any noticeable difference in my time or added fatigue. I did however, have a very brief dizzy spell a few hours after though.0

I know what you mean about wanting to pick up something to chew on out of habit LOL.
I've used celery a few times as well and it's a pretty good, rather mild tasting juice.
I've also been alternating between kale and spinach in my batches. Kale is a bit more bitter and spinach seems to have much more liquid in it.
I tried a piece of ginger yesterday as well and may have had a bit too much as my wife thought it was a bit zippy0 -
I'm doing a vegetable Juice on fast right now, i'm on day 10 and i plan to continue to the end of the month at least.
It's not like a water fast because i'm getting all i need from the veg. I juice mainly green veg and drink about 6 glasses a day,
it was hard for the first 4 days then became very easy,
Iv'e not eaten anything at all and not a bit hungry.
It's a great detox and also a good boost for the weight loss as well.
no down side os far as i can see.0 -
ugh. any weight loss you guys might see now is from sodium deficiency (it doesnt sound like you're getting any) and the laxative effect of the things you are consuming. So you're dehydrating, and weighing less as a result. When you eat regular food again, most, if not all will come back. There is no such thing as "toxin cleansing" your kidneys do that all day, every day, regardless of if you are chewing your food or having a blender do the work.
Just eat less and move more. Be patient, it takes time to see real, lasting results.
Good luck in your journey!0 -
There is no laxative effect LOL
I've not had a movement in more than 24 hours and the last one was minimal, TMI I know LOL
And I'm losing weight pretty quickly.
I'm in maintenance mode right now anyhow, been at or below my target weight for many months and this is not a forever thing for me, just helping my wife get out of the gates.0 -
Just stopping in to read b/c I have been thinking of doing a juice fast as well & just wanted to see what you all have to say about it....Good luck to you all.0

If you lost 102lbs without a juice fast, and your wife saw this transition, why exactly does she need a juice fast to "get out of the gates"?0 -
She didn't like the thought of measuring and weighing everything she ate I guess. I'll get her converted there, or all this will be for naught.
I have to admit, the cleanup after juicing sucks, but so far I feel fantastic even though I have not eaten anything solid in 4 days. There is no laxative effect LOL

I find that if you remove the stalks from the kale is not nearly as bitter.
I have been having a veggi and fruit juice every am and clean eating teh rest of the day.
Trying to build up to a whole day0 -
try a blender fast! Healthier! Juice is high in sugar! You can leave peelings on an apple just take the core out and add 1tsp cinn and a cup of lowfat vanilla yogurt tastes like apple pie! The revolution on abc is doing a 20 days to a swimsuit body with recipes for a 20 day blender diet! Pretty tasty! Nothing wrong with juice except it takes alot of fruit to make the juice and they usually take some of the nutrients out with juicers!0

I'm actually using mostly veggies in my juice, just a small piece of fruit to add a little sweetness.0

Thanks for your opinion but your just so wrong, have you ever done a Vegetable juice fast for any serious length of time,
No laxative effect,
No way am i dehydrating myself, i'm drinking about 3 - 4 liters a day,
And when i start easting again i know i'll gain around 5 lb. but that's to be expected and if you know it from the start - what's the problem,
as far as i am concerned its a very positive thing to do. as long as your sensible when you stop of course.0 -
It surprises me there are some people that are so opposed to the concept of a juice fast. I had been losing about 2 pounds a week for the last month, but I always felt temptation was close. After watching "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" one evening, I just decided to do a 10 day juice fast - and I started the next morning. About a week ago I finished the juice fast, and I am SO glad I did it.
I lost over 14 lbs during the 10 day juice fast, and other than a few headaches on day 2 (from going off caffeine), I have absolutely no complaints. The first day was a little inconvenient (since I didn't really prepare to start), so I ended up doing Naked/Bolthouse, but once I got into the groove of making sure I always had fresh produce, and scheduled enough time to prepare the juice and cleanup, it just became part of my daily routine.
As far as the benefits for me, they were fantastic. I almost immediately had more energy. I was never hungry because I didn't limit myself on how much juice I drank. If I got hungry, I drank more juice. I was also drinking about a gallon of water every day. The 10 days went very fast. I never felt cravings, and I never felt temptation to cheat. I had decided I was going to stick to it, and I did - easily. As I gained experience juicing, I found combinations of vegetables and fruits that I liked, and I now have some juices that I absolutely love.
The day after I finished the juice fast, I had a small breakfast and a salad for lunch, but I honestly missed the juice. I decided to continue juicing, and replace at least one meal a day with a fresh juice (sometimes two meals). Admittedly I've only been off the juice fast for a little over a week, but I still haven't had any cravings or desire to "cheat." Eating healthier throughout the day is just easier now. I still feel like I have a lot more energy than before, and I have continued to lose weight (another 4-5 pounds since I went off the juice fast).
There have been several other benefits to juicing that I really could not have predicted. First, my teenage son has found a few juice combinations that he really likes, and hasn't had any soda in over two weeks. He has actually asked (several times) for me to make him some juice. Second, my youngest son, who is severely autistic and nonverbal, is a VERY finicky eater, and it's a constant struggle for us to get him the nutrients he needs... and he'll drink the juice. He prefers more fruit in his juice than I put in mine, but even so, he is now getting LOTS of servings of vegetables every day that he wasn't getting a few weeks ago. If THAT was the only benefit, this juicing experiment would be a success.
Finally, my wife is now juicing, as well as my parents. My dad is even doing a 10 day juice fast, which, if you knew my dad, would absolutely SHOCK you.
My family and I are healthier now than we were a few weeks ago, and incorporating fresh juice into our daily lives is something we all want to do. I honestly don't have one bad thing to say about this experience... and I'm very, very glad I did it. It has had an absolutely positive impact on me and my health, and the health of my family.
My $.02
P.S. If you have any specific questions... or want some juice recipes... or whatever... feel free to send a message.0 -
There's a fat, sick nearly dead group that talks about the juice fasts. Go check it out..lots of people and lots of good info.0

I did a three day juice fast through an Australian company (I couldn't stand the idea of doing all my juices myself, particularly as I live in a sharehouse) last month and I felt great for the whole three days, not hungry at all. The most this company offers is a five-day fast, though, so I don't think I'd ever do longer than that. Came out of it slowly. Had heaps of energy the whole time. Lost a few kilos, gained a couple back, shook them off within a fortnight, still powering on. That was just an added bonus though - I wanted a chance to restart my eating habits. I'm probably going to do another one with them in a month or so on a higher level (they have three different levels, less fruit and more green as they advance) - mostly because they have a new winter menu and I want to take it for a spin.0
