No more period?

Hello,
I was wondering if any women out there have experienced this, and if I should be worried.
Basically, I havn't had a full on period since February (It's May now). and I've always been regular up to this point.
I'm thinking it might be my body adjusting to the weight loss. I started working out about a year and a half ago. I was never over weight, but i wanted to start being more healthy. I started off at 138 at 5'7, and now I'm about 121-124 (it changes all the time). In the begining I was doing more yoga and less hard-core workouts, and lost a few pounds slowly, but about 6 months into it I was able to workout out harder and got more serious about it because I got stronger and was able to do more. I currently workout an hour 5 times a week, and these last 6 months is where my weight dropped the most. I don't think it's a diet issue, I eat really healthy and anywhere from 1400-2000 calories a day, and I can't imagine eating more.

Any advice?
(By the way i'm 19 years old if that helps).

See a doctor. It could be nothing, but it might be something.

it could be pcos aka u dont ovulate regularly which can cause that or it could be stress
  • Your BMI is on the lower end of normal, but still normal. The less body fat you have the less likely you are to have a normal period. It probably is nothing but you might want to talk to your doctor. She will probably just tell you to gain some weight, but who knows it might be something more serious. But you are also only 19....your period may not have regulated yet. Also if you are on birth control, that could effect your cycle. The longer you are on it the lighter your period may become, but if it completely stops you would want to talk to your doctor to switch brands.

    Hope all is well

I've been having my period since I was 12, and it's always been regular since then, so I don't think it's that my period hasn't regulated yet, and I'm also not on birth control. Hopefully it's nothing serious, but I will ask my Doctor about it. Thanks for the answers everyone!

You are in the "healthy" range on the BMI, but towards the lower end. Remember the BMI is quite a blunt tool. It may be that for you and your body, you don't currently have enough body fat for a regular cycle. I would ask your doctor. It's hopefully nothing serious, but definitely worth getting it checked out!
  • My periods stop and start all the damned time (I'm 19 too, and also started when I was 12)
It's highly annoying when you don't know when to expect them XD

But I would go and see your doctor :)
Mine was just down to my change in habits, as I went from no exercise and unhealthy eating to the total opposite.

    Hope all is well x

I have heard that this happens with many women athletes (gymnasts, especially). It may be exercise related-- and sounds like it since it coincides w/ the fitness changes you've made-- but I would still get checked out just to be safe.

Best advice? Go see your doctor.

Years ago, I had "Norplant" (birth control) put in my arm. Doc said it was ok, not to have a period. 5 years later..Still didn't have a period. 6 yrs after that...I had a benign tumor on my pituitary gland. The hormones had to release somewhere..and that is where it ended up. so now I have to take medication to keep the tumor stable.
    So yeah...get it checked out!

Ok, I didn't see this asked; could you be pregnant? Had to ask. Either way you need to see an OBGYN and find out the cause.

You need 10-15% body fat to ovulate and many women will not bleed without ovulating first. If you have been lifting weights and working out hard, your body fat % may be below that.

    Also, take a pregnancy test!

See a doctor. Just because you're on the normal side of the BMI scale doesn't mean you aren't too thin. A period stopping if you're not pregnant or on BC is a warning sign.

Haha, Im definitely not pregnant because I'm a virgin xD

Maybe my body fat is too low, I do lift weights often.
