I'm going to beat my scale with a bat

So given it's a cheap $10 scale, but it should still do it's job, right? I way myself everyday right now because I want to see how my diet the previous day affected my weight if at all. Once I have a good idea of how my body is reacting to food, I'll switch to weekly. However, that scale will give me up to a 5lb weight difference depending on where it is in my home. No lie I can stand on the scale and I'm one weight then move it a foot to the left and I'm 5lbs heavier. WTF?
So do I get a new scale, use the one at the gym only even though it's one of those obnoxious doctor's office scales, go ballistic and beat the scale with a baseball bat?

I would probably get a better quality scale if I could afford it. I would pick one spot in the house to weigh myself. Make sure its a solid surface and not carpet. You should get an accurate picture of your weight/loss trend that way.0

Beat the scale for me. Then tell it to go F*** it's self :flowerforyou:
Now go get a new scale if it is important to you.
Otherwise go buy a dress makers tape measure and go by that!0 -
hi! I want to beat my scale too, but because it's correct! I have been exercising and maintaing a deficit on cals and not lost a bl00dy thing!!!!!!!!! GRRR
Beat yours with a bat and if you can afford it buy a better one. If not, use the ones at the gym I used to use the gym ones :bigsmile:0 -
you need a really good scale and stop with the everyday weighing believe it or not
I got a good one for like $50 at Walmart....measures my weight, water percentage, body fat
everything you eat, drink and do changes daily and will always throw the scale off...0 -
go ahead and beat it with a bat! you will feel so much better. BUT - when you get your new scale, keep it in one spot, weigh at the same time of day, wearing the same thing (I prefer nothing - but that is just me). every time you move the scale you change the balance etc. especially on the ones that are less expensive. Invest in a little better scale - if you can. also weighing every day is so frustrating..... I wouldn't do that either0

I would get a new scale - I bought a great one at Walmart that I believe was under $40.00 and I swear it works GREAT. It's accurate and I weigh in the same place daily (I weigh daily too for the same reasons). I even believe it's close to a doctors scale because when I weigh in at my doctors office, his is a bit more aggressive, but we also have a scale here at work and it likes to be polite to you to make you like it. The scale I have is somewhere in the middle but closer to the doctors scale end of things. I really love it.
If you want the specs on it to see if you'd like to purchase one, feel free to send me a message.
Good luck I know how frustrating it is!!!0 -
My scale does the same thing. I've learned to live with it cuz I haven't been able to afford a new one. Keep with it long enough and you'll at least see the number range on the scale go down! xD0

have at it!!!!
go ballistic and beat the scale with a baseball bat?

You can just glue the scale to the floor so you can't move it anymore...
I know the 'Grabbing a bat and beat the scale to death' feeling but it's unrelated to the quality of my poor scale. (Newton is dead can't beat him up)
sorry LOL
I think you are right: any scale should do the job regardless the price. We pay extra for extra but measuring is not extra when it's called scale... Can you return it? Or just grab a bat and let it out... $10.00 is a cheap therapy session0 -

^^^ I like her answer.
I had a similar issue with my old 20 year old scale...you know the kind that has the spring. I bought an EatSmart and found out I was actually 5 lbs heavier than what my old scale said I was. Not a good way to start a new relationship if you know what I mean. At least it was being truthful, and I didn't have to worry about accuracy. If your scale isn't accurate, buy a new one.0 -
I would try to stop weighing yourself daily, because there is so much more to it that diet. Did you work out... was vigorous.. was it weights, did you ..eerrr...uuummmm.... go to the "bathroom", did you drink enough water? Your muscles swell when you work out...also if you didn't drink enough water you body will hold to to. If you cant deal with the daily ups and downs of the scale... pick one day, one time to weigh yourself.
I even had to hide the scale from myself for a month... because I felt the number on the scale was starting constantly stress me out.
Also... warning, buying a new scale..............sometimes means a new number and not always for the better. I purchased a new scale and gained 3 lbs.0 -
I went thru this the other day and ranted about it:

Beat the damn thing into submission0 -
I'd not worry about buying a new one. Honestly, the slightest difference in the floor, the foundation of the home, even the Earth itself (maybe there is a small hill there etc) can change the way the scale lies. You should weigh at the same time AND the same place. Just like when you weigh and go to the doctor's office the scale can be differently, so can the same scale change based on topography.0

Today is a "Beat the $#!% out of your scale" day!!!0

LOL You guys are awesome. I might just beat the scale with a bat. I figure it'll be good cardio and it'll work my arms a bit!
In reality, I'll probably just chuck it and rely on the scale at the gym.0 -
Everybody depends so much on the scales...don't forget body measurements. My scales say I've gained a few pounds but I have lost a few inches around the waist hips and thighs. So I've toned up and that means a lot too. Scales can always cause confused messages, beware...0

I had a scale like that. I replaced it with a nicer model. Turns out it wasn't the old scale's fault, it was my own. Scale wants a happy, solid, flat surface that has little to no give (no linoleum, no carpeting, etc.) Scale also wants to be left in the same spot, that way you have a consistent frame of reference for weigh ins. My old scale would vary so drastically I believed it was broken, and while I love my new scale and don't regret getting it, my old scale wasn't broken. So I rehomed it to my Dad's house, who is currently trying to get himself slimmed down a few pounds. I am a daily weigh in kinda girl, every morning just before my first meal of the day I jump on my new scale (for better or worse.) I, too, like to see if and how badly my food choices effected my weight so I know fairly immediately how to modify things. I don't foresee myself ever being a weekly weigh in person in the very near future. Maybe "someday."
At any rate, g'luck to you and your scale!0
