Why am I SO tired after exercise?!

I thought exercise was supposed to release all these endorphins & make me feel like a million bucks when I was done. Instead, I'm exhausted, and can barely drag myself off the couch to bed after I work out. This makes it very hard for me to work out, because I know I won't be able to do anything else once I'm done. Is something wrong with me?

This happens to me too. I am still trying to figure out what foods help with the after workout recovery to avoid this. I could honestly lay down right there on the floor and go to sleep after I'm done working out!0

when i first started working out three months ago i was the same way, i used to go late at night to the gym because when i got home i would go right to bed, now....i cant go late at night because i am too wired after excersize! i think it just takes some time for our bodies to get it....
and a good food after work out is protien! the personal trainer i met with once said cottage cheese is the best....0 -

Honestly, the only thing wrong is that you're out of shape. As were most of us, and thats why we came here
Keep at it and you will see amazing results from it.0 -
Another option is a glass of milk, i know it sounds weird but it works..0

It's really important to put the right food in us before and after we exercise. I just read a book on this! if you eat something light (ex. and apple with a tsp. of peanutbutter) an hour before you exercise, it will give you the right amount of fuel for your exercise. You want to have something to eat within an hour after too. I have been trying it and it makes a HUGE difference!:happy:0

Protein after a work out, Great idea. I struggle in the AM when I work out because I have to go get lunches packed and ready for work, so I don't eat until I've been up for like 3 hours.... NOT GOOD... I will add a glass of milk to my morning... Thanks0

Thanks for all the feedback!!
chgudnitz - CONGRATS on loosing all that weight!! I can't wait to be at my goal!
nicolee - could you share what book it is that you read? I don't come from a very active family, so I don't even know the basics about getting into shape. I've been reading as much as I can.0 -
are you eating/sleeping well/enough?0

pinkpoole- it's called the Runner's Diet. I got it from the website www.runnersworld.com Don't be scared by the title. It's for runners and walkers! I think it's a great book!
I just found it at amazon.com for a pretty decent price. It's at this link-

You also need to eat at least 30 minutes before you do a hard workout to have fuel for your workout...I learned this when doing my first half marathon years ago....Then supplement after you workout within 30 minutes too....if you are not hungry a spoonfull of peanut butter and a cup of oj works wonders.
Hope this helps0 -

I agree with this. You can adjust your nutrition all you want, but the only remedy for being out of shape is excersise and getting in shape.
My only suggestion is, if your current work out is leaving where it's hard to function the rest of the day tone it down, or shorten it. Do what you can, anything is better than what you were doing. I walked for nine months before I even thought about running.0
