Pet insurance

Hey everyone,

just wondering, does anyone have pet insurance for their cat? And if so, does it pay off? We just dropped $1700 at the emergency vet that we didn't have, and found our kitty has asthma. We live in a stuffy, humid apartment, in a stuffy humid area, and they said this could very well be a recurring thing. I'm considering getting it (an extra $20-30 a month is a lot more manageable than $1700 out of the blue! :-!) , but I need reviews - who do you go through, who covers the most, and what's the best bang for the buck? Any input is awesome! Thank you :)

    I've never used it and am curious as well. We have two cats and they can get expensive. I do use Care Credit which I got to help make payments on a dental visit. I noticed that the vet I took my kitty to to get spayed, accepted the card as well. Its worth looking into because I didn't have interest payments as long as I paid the bill on time each month. Paid them off twice with ease.

    most pet insurance doesn't cover a lot of extras... we had pet insurance on our dog, he got sick, the treatment the vet recommended wasnt covered.... cost us 10k :( then after a few yrs he died... we had pet insurance on our next dog, she hasn't gotten sick and needed it yet, but the only thing it covered was regular vaccinations, office visits, and dental cleaning... we dropped it, she's still fine. it ends up in a scenario similar to humans, the vet says we can do this, but it's not covered by the insurance you've been paying up the butt for. You're better off putting the amount you would spend on the cat insurance aside each month for an in case situation.

    Trupanion. Worth it IMO.

    Like all insurance, it all depends on what it will actually cover. My mom had pet insurance for her three cats. The cat got out and was bit by an animal. The insurance did not cover it because it was a policy for an indoor cat and the injury happened outside.

    Talk to you vet and see what he/she recommends!

    I don't have insurance; I do have a membership with "Pet Assure" though - they pay 25% of my bill at the time of service, and my dog has hip dysplasia - which insurance wouldn't cover because it's a pre-existing condition :(
